Malcolm Miller says he did not train Anne-Marie Woods, and that she works for the cathedral organization. She gives very good tours, so I'm not sure why this matters. Perhaps his Rickness's use of the word protegé in his book(s) has a different meaning for Rick, and Mr. Miller wants to set the record straight (my speculation, that things be clear). He first came to Chartres in 1956 to teach English at the Lycee Marceau whilst writing a dissertation on Chartres Cathedral for his degree. He began guiding at the cathedral in 1958. If he was about 20 in 1956.

  • This is "the book" to study before viewing Chartres Cathedral. Malcom Miller with 50 years of studying Chartres is the expert on the subject. If you can't get to Chartres but are interested in Cathedrals this book will help you understand and long to actually go there.
Malcom Miller is still giving 1 1/2 hour tours but it is best to be prepared before you hear Malcom Miller speak, since that will add to your understanding. As I said in the title "don't forget to bring your binoculars" as well as your camera to enhance the experience.

  • This stunning book, written by perhaps the foremost guide at the cathedral, tells the story of Chartres Cathedral primarily through its exceptionally beautiful color pictures of the stained glass, with just enough text to tie the history together.

  • This booklet was not quite what I expected - it was even better. Having reviewed a similar copy at a library, I decided to purchase this as a memento (after the fact) of our summer 2012 trip to Chartres. When it arrived, it was a slightly different version and featured all the windows in Chartres. Delightful. A terrific find!

  • very pleased

  • Written by Malcome Miller, lifetime expert on Chartres. Disappointed that although description of windows was good, wanted more of the sculptures.

  • It's mostly concerned with stained glass windows and sculpture. The photographs are not of high quality. The windows have wide dividers between individual pieces of glass and the designs are not ones I particularly like. Not recommended.

  • Loved Chartres Cathredral. I was glued to the book for days. The pictures are phenomenal, and are much more vivid than seeing that wonderful stained glass in person, because the pictures are taken close up, and the windows are so high that one misses the details that the book's pictures show and describe. I really am enjoying this book.
