Popular music in Britain is more than just art With classical music having significantly elitist roots, genres such as punk, indie and grime have been born out of social underclass that was in need of hope. This was provided by people like Sid Vicious, David Bowie and Stormzy who people could identify with, more than classical musicians. Their influence transcends just music and makes people want to act a certain way, dress a certain way and live their life the way their heroes do. British music resonates with people more so than classical.
