The rondeau "De tous biens plaine" by the Franco-Flemish composer Hayne van Ghizeghem was perhaps the most widely parodied song of the late French Medieval period with no fewer than 28 different variations conceived over 4 decades. They included secular songs, mass movements and virtuoso instrumental duos and trios. Written before 1470, it is a surprisingly modern sounding piece of part writing that has both memorable cantus and tenor lines. Its popularity of the original chanson has been confirmed by the more than 20 copies that have survived in numerous chansonniers across France,.
