  • Pierre Gonnord's lighting is exquisite - very like a Rembrandt painting, with many dark brown or gray backgrounds and luminous, off-side lighting. It's also a bit like Rembrandt in that all the warts show, and his subjects seem to be extra warty.
    (Or cross-eyed, rumple-clothed, dirty face, cataracts . . .) I was looking for some interesting characters to learn to draw faces, and this book is certainly that!

    There's a bit of Spanish text in the front, and some English in the back - and the rest is all photographs, mostly busts of interesting people, but a few moody landscapes.

  • The book was bought to get to know the work of the Photographer before purchasing a larger book. As is, the book is great and so is the photographs, printing etc. very nice indeed.
