Faith healing is the practice of prayer and gestures (such as laying on of hands) that are believed by some to elicit divine intervention in spiritual and physical healing, especially the Christian practice. Believers assert that the healing of disease and disability can be brought about by religious faith through prayer and/or other rituals that, according to adherents, can stimulate a divine presence and power.

In the present volume, James Robinson shows how the Holiness movement contributed to the rise of Pentecostalism, with emphasis on those sectors that practiced divine healing. Although other scholars have undertaken to explore this story, Robinson's treatment is by far the most thorough examination to date. He draws productively on the burgeoning secondary literatures on Pentecostalism and healing, and brings to light frequently overlooked, yet revealing primary sources.

PDF The teaching that physical healing is included in the atonement has been appealed to from direct statements in scripture, and from deductive reasoning, from Isaiah 53: 4 – 6, Matthew 8: 16 – 17, and I Peter 2: 24 – 25, in particular  . Aquinas believed the Psalms to be a book that contained all of theology, revealing so much about Christ that it resembles New Testament gospels more than Old Testament prophetic books. Ryan identifies patterns in Aquinas' confirmatory use of scripture and his use of christological quotations.

  • This is what Storms had to say about his own book. I have not read it, just thought it would be helpful for people considering to buy such an expensive book that's out of print. This review comes from a list by Storms highlighting his "bottom ten list." The entire article can be found here:[...]
"[His book as number 10]: No, this isn’t a joke. Neither is it a bad attempt at false humility. It’s simply a bad book. Forgive me for having written it. I suppose a good portion of what I wrote is o.k., but that doesn’t justify the rest of the nonsense I put forth in this regrettable effort to undermine people’s confidence in the healing power of God today. It’s out of print (thank God), so don’t write me asking for an autographed copy."
