Professor Barclay reminds us, however, that the Creed should be seen not so much as a test and yardstick of orthodoxy, but rather as a symbolic, pictorial and poetic representation of a truth-a truth that Christian should constantly rethink and restate for themselves. Barclay's insights are particularly valuable at a time when many traditional beliefs are being questioned, both. by theologians and lay people.

  • I have used Barclay's commentaries for many years and just discovered his books. This one is very enlightening with a lot of points I had not considered. A very easy read for a mature christian but may be a little deep for a new one. The book is divided into easy to read chapters. Each chapter focuses on a certain aspect of the Holy Spirit. For example; the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit in the Gospels, and so one.I learned a lot from this book!

  • I study the Bible daily and taught Sunday School for several years. I used Dr. William Barclay's commentaries and books like this one to teach and help me with my studies. Dr. Barclay has a wonderful way of opening the Word of God so that anyone can understand the New Testament books. In the Promise of the Spirit, he explains Christ's promises to both his Apostiles and Disciples to help them spread the Word of God to new believers and how The Spirit would strengthen them when HE had been lifted up. Dr. Barclay also tells us how the words written in the New Testament 2000 years ago will help us in our walk with The Lord. Dr. Barclay was a Scottish Pastor and Professor at the University of Glasgow and just does such a wonderful job of helping you understand God's word. He has many other books that are excellent and his Bible Commentarys are the best.

  • Most people remember William Barclay from his series of commentaries on the New Testament. Few know of his other works and thats a shame. Treat yourself to this and his other "obscure" works. More theological insight than some of the current scholars. Lots of good insight and reason.

  • Barclay's insights are always phenomenal!

  • Good Read

  • Purchased by a college as a library resource for students upon request of a staff or faculty member.

  • I ordered this book for my wife, who is teaching a Bible study on the Holy Spirit. She likes it.

  • A clear and concise book on spirituality. Very articulate, good footnotes. Mr. Barclay has complete grasp of his subject and a masterful way of communicating his vast knowledge and understanding.
