The simplest way to understand every book of the Bible: this guide sums up the Old and New Testaments in one sentence per book. That’s because the Bible is a collection of writings from different authors writing at different times. Great for adults and kids. In some ways, that makes it easier to approach the Bible: we can read it in chunks rather than needing to read the whole Bible at once. But it also makes it a bit confusing. The Bible itself is a book. In fact, the word bible comes from the Latin and Greek words for book (biblia and biblos, respectively). But it’s a book of books.

  • this is such a great reference book. I use it A LOT! It is very clear, simple and concise to read and SUPER interesting. I have learned so much about the context of each book of the Bible. Gives you very concrete information like who wrote it, what was going on in history at the time, and there are "fun" facts about the book that are interesting, however its a Serious reference book that I use over and over to keep reiterating the information for myself. One of my fav Bible books to keep handy

  • I teach Adult Education at a Catholic Church and I have used this book as an introduction to each of the Books of the Catholic Bible Canon. First it has in each of the Books a heading called a "Place in the Bible"--This helps us set location within the Biblical Books. Then, another heading "Date and Author" which gives the reader an understanding of time and authorship of the Book. Subesequently the heading "Theme" which provides the reader the basic premise of the Book. It finishes with an "Outline" of for each Book at hand. All these elements assist me as an Adult Education Instructor to Introduce the Biblical Books prior to the in-depth presentation of each of the Books. For a person who wants to learn the Bible Inside the Bible by Kenneth Baker S.J. is a short and effective method to being introduced to the Biblical information so when reading any specific book of the Bible you already have an understanding of what is being covered in each of the books of the Bible.

  • I gave this book five stars as I think anyone engaged in reading the Bible or participating in Bible Study groups should have this as a MUST resource. It provides an excellent overview into each book of the Bible. Authorship, theme and theology, as well as a summary outline of each, provides an informed and easy to understand focus on the content. I feel so much more knowledgeable in my reading and group participation when using it.

  • A marvelous summary of the books of the Bible and analysis of the political, religious background by one of the most dependable and trustworthy Biblical theologians writing. As I love the Bible, learned to read with it practically, and want all my children and grandchildren to know it an love it, and as I know they probably will not spend the time to do that, I am forever grateful that someone like Fr. Baker has made it possible for them.

  • Great inside information I never would have had in such a brief yet concise form without reading this book. Very helpful.

  • I have found this book quite helpful in reading and studying the bible. It contains reviews of all 73 books and the author provides a brief review of each, allowing the reader a reasonable amount of knowledge of the theological, historical and societal context behind the writings. The main thrust is encapsulated and the teachings explained so that the reader has additional understanding of an admittedly difficult and sometimes complicated subject. It also highlights a verse from each book which represents the book and also breaks each book down into the main subject of each chapter. Written especially for the Catholic, but also for any serious student of scripture, I highly recommended this book.

  • This is a great way to get a handle on the events of the bible. There are easy references from the outlines that help you go to scripture to look up further information as needed. The overview of each book help to put it into perspective with the relevant historical culture and relationship of old to new testament. Very interesting and handy tool.

  • Easy to understand. Even got my husband interested.
