We had great hopes for this book for our Sunday School class as it has extensive coverage of Bible characters in one single book. However, there are many issues that cause us to consider giving up on its use even though we've only gone thru 1/4 of the book: Poor layout - blanks provided in the book for writing in Bible verses do "not" match the length of the verses to be written in. • We had great hopes for this book for our Sunday School class as it has extensive coverage of Bible characters in one single book. However, there are many issues that cause us to consider giving up on its use even though we've only gone thru 1/4 of the book:

#1. Poor layout - blanks provided in the book for writing in Bible verses do "not" match the length of the verses to be written in.
#2. Poor questions - Fill in blanks (see #1 above) are for writing in Bible verses. This is boring as it is just copying Bible verses you look up. There are no "thought" questions, and no "applications" to fill in answers on.
#3. Uses older KJV instead of the newer NASB, NIV, or even NKJV.
#4. Instead of applications questions, at the end of each chapter the author lists out Bible facts "you should learn" from that chapter. There is no meditation, application to life, etc.

Our intention is to make the Word of God living in the lives of our students, and help them apply it to daily situations. We do not want them to just learn a bunch of facts about different Bible personalities.

For example, in the lesson about Ruth, the author does an excellent job of pointing out (Ruth chapter 2) Ruth's willingness to server her mother-in-law by going out to the field to glean the leftovers. But the author forgot to emphasize the importance of her taking practical action (after making her commitment in chapter 1). This would have been a perfect opportunity for the author to throw in some application questions for Christians to think about what are some commitments or promises (Bible study, community welfare, giving, etc.) we've made to God that we need to keep, and what will we do "today" to start honoring those promises.

I did give it 2 stars (not 1) because it does do a good job presenting information about each Bible character - 1) Meaning of the Name, 2) Basic Scriptures, 3) Family Background, 4) What the Old Testament says about xx, 5) What the New Testament says about xx, 6) Lessons you should learn from this lesson, and a review section "Can you Remember?"
