  • I really, really enjoyed this book. But I'm not going to lie, it was an interesting way to talk about contentment. It wasn't done in the way I would have expected. For instance, Michelle uses the story of the Shunammite woman from the Bible to illustrate her points in each chapter. While I believe the story fit decently (not perfectly) with her points, I felt her telling of the story was a little over dramatized and I found myself wanting to skip the story (I never did) and just read Michelle's insights.

Also, I wanted more said about learning to let go of your discontentment. I didn't feel the Shunammite woman's story allowed for this. And while Michelle addressed the issue, it wasn't quite as in depth as I hoped.

It's definitely difficult to convey exactly the approach this book used. I guess one example would be that Michelle would say things about how you've wanted something for so long that you've just made peace with the fact that God doesn't think you should have it and then one day something comes along and stirs your discontent and longing for what you've once desired because God actually DOES want you to desire and have it in His time. (This is the beginning principle for the Shunammite's story.)

Actually, I think if the story of the Shunammite hadn't been in the book, I would have given it 5 stars. But some people may have really enjoyed it and identified with it more than myself. But I really loved Michelle's insights. Which is why I gave it 4 stars.

This is definitely a book you should read if you're struggling with being content with where you are, but if you're like me, you may want to read something else in addition to this book.

  • You (Michelle McKinney Hammond) are truly inspired and there is so much to say amen for in your testimony. Having several of your books over the years such that I have a small library of wisdom to read, reflect on and share with other, this is one more wonderful product. The reader can either start at the beginning and work through the chapters and the questions and scripture studies as they come or you can go right to the chapter that will refill you and give you the reminders that you need that God is always at work in you life and still in charge when it doesn't feel like it. Even if you have other books, there are new lessons that make purchasing this one more than worthwhile.

  • I have enjoyed every Michelle McKinney Hammond book that I've read. We were reading this one in our book club and so far have found it very enlightening.

  • This is a really great book to read especially as it refers to the Book of Kings in the Bible and lessons learned from it are essential and applicable to life.

  • How to be Happy Where you are in an AMAZING read. I read the book with some friends in a bible study/ book club group and we absolutely loved it. The questions at the end of each chapter cause one to take a critical look at their lives and evaluate where they are headed and more importantly if God is joining us in that direction. Very insightful book, I would definitely recommend it to anyone no matter what age or stage you are in life.

  • This book helped me to recapture my balance after a period of vulnerability that left me off kilter. Thank you.

  • This book really spoke to my heart. I highly recommend it! God used it greatly in my life. Thank you,

  • This book is awesome.. If you are struggling with trying to find your purpose or just feeling like you're not living life to the fullest.. This book is for you..It an awesome read where you will want to continue reading.. I highly Reccommend it!!

My favorite quote from the book is " when your dreams and longings seem to be the most distant, get excited. God is up to something. Waiting should not rock your contentment level because you know by now that God delights in impossibilities. The very thing you think He has forgotten, He has remembered and secured".

    Amen!!!!!
