Plain Jayne (Plain and Simple). I pick her books up and read them in a day. If only Hillary had a backlist of twenty novels, I would be set for the rest of the year. One person found this helpful. Oh my goodness! I thought Plain Jayne was good; but Simply Sara was marvelous! So much going on, so many emotions, some shockers and you couldn't ask for a better ending! Surprises galore! I wish there was another sequel to keep this going.

Following up on Plain Jayne, a fun new look at Amish life from the outside in, author Hillary Manton Lodge continues with young Sara Burkholder's perspective on English life and romance in Simply Sara.

Sara, who left her Amish family to live with Jayne, discovers that the English world is a bit more challenging than she expected. As she finds a job, buys English clothes, wears makeup, and learns to drive, she begins a journey to becoming the person she might have been had she not been born into an Amish family. But when romance becomes complicated and school proves difficult, Sara escapes to her Amish sister's home, wondering if she should return to the life she left. Torn, she seeks answers in prayer, but is the God she is seeking the same in both worlds? What's a quilt-making, fashion-loving, formerly Plain girl to do when a new way of life starts to change her?

  • This is the second book in the series.

Sara Burkholder was born and raised Amish. Her brother Levi left the faith and went to college and built a good life in the English world. Sara loves to draw and wants to be a clothing designer. At age 18, Sara decides to leave her roots and go into the English world to pursue her dream.
This book picks up where Plain Jayne leaves off. This is a story about Sara's adventures adapting to the English world. It is easy to get into this book. It was a light read but enjoyable. (less)

  • Sara, who left her Amish family to live in the big city with her brother's girlfriend Jayne, discovers that the English world is a bit more challenging than she expected. She manages to find a job, buy a more normal-looking wardrobe, learn to drive, and begins college classes to be a fashion designer. But a handsome face at work throws everything into chaos. How can she possibly be everything to everyone, including herself?

Love these books! And I don't really read Amish romance--not that there is anything wrong with a good Amish story. But Hillary Manton Lodge is hystericalm, and she writes so well. I pick her books up and read them in a day. If only Hillary had a backlist of twenty novels, I would be set for the rest of the year. *sigh* If you haven't read Hillary's books yet and you enjoy romance with a bit of humor, check these out now!

  • Oh my goodness! I thought Plain Jayne was good; but Simply Sara was marvelous! So much going on, so many emotions, some shockers and you couldn't ask for a better ending! Surprises galore! I wish there was another sequel to keep this going. I very highly recommend this book; but please, read Plain Jayne first as it all runs together.

  • This book is a bit of a departure from the usual Amish fiction. As Sara has left her family and gone to live, work and study in the big city of Portland, OR; the book is more like "chick lit" with girls getting together for movie night, buying clothes, cooking, and falling in love. The only difference is the main character who is like a duck out of water. This was a fun and quick read.

  • Sara had a dream, since forever! She just couldn't stay Amish and have that dream come true. The English friends Sara makes are just as fun as the friends she shares with Jayne. I loved the dialogue. The friendship with Will is very well written and their budding romance fun to watch. This is an enjoyable light read, with a bit of tension near the end.

  • I loved this book, it was a fast and easy read. could not put it down. I liked the fact that Sara went back to the English but she still has some of her Amish values. A definite read even if you do not like Amish stories.

  • I really liked this book and I got the second one too. I wish there was a third one!!!

  • arrived promptly - just as described
