Mark Bradley first delves into why Iran is such a closed land to the gospel and why one would expect the number of Muslims converting to Christianity to have declined. Actually, the opposite has happened, and in the second half of the book the author examines why ordinary Iranians are so open to Jesus. It explains how their revolution in 1979 brought war, economic chaos, and totalitarianism. That event has made Iranians deeply disillusioned and led them to question the religion used to justify the government's policies.

This accessible book looks at why Iranian Muslims are turning to Christ more than other Muslim sects. • Mark Bradley does a very good job of taking me into the world of Iran and its culture. He gives us a better insight into the thinking of the Iranian. Not to be pejorative, but just as a side note; In 1970 I went through pilot training with two Iranians and I asked them what they would do after they got back home. Each ne said they wanted to kill an Iraqi. Times have changed much since then, but after reading this book on Open Hearts it has given me a better understanding of the mindset the eastern people have which is certainly much different than the West. It is a great book to give us a broader understanding.

  • Excellent! This book is well worth reading. In fact, for anyone who really wants to know the inside scoop on Iran today I would say that this is a must read. The author certainly displays a thorough knowledge of his subject, but he doesn't present it in a way that is pedantic or sensational. This book is very readable, something not always found in today's market. I have read the book twice already, and plan to read it again. It has been extremely helpful. A case in point: Just a few nights ago I was involved in a discussion regarding Iran and the Christian church there. The question was asked why so many Muslims are coming to Christ in Iran. I was able to give sound, well-grounded reasons based on what I had read in this book. Many thanks to Mark Bradley for this needed work.

  • Mark Bradley has given a wonderful text concerning the spiritual state of Iran, however, this is more than just a book about missionary opportunity within a nation of people starved for options--it is a strong source of information concerning Iranian history.
"Iran: Open Hearts in a Closed Land" gives reason for the recent openness to Christianity in the region by providing a concise but thorough history of Persian culture and Shi'a Islam. Indeed, this text should be a reference not only for the missions-minded, but for anyone--Christian, Muslim, Secular, etc.--who desires to expand his or her knowledge about both Iran as an Islamic state and as a nation of Persian people.
This book is truly readable and an excellent jumping-off point for a study of Iran's history, government, and culture.
