What a wonderful book to read when rt are turned upside down and pain, loss, homesickness, fear etc. are flooding over you and sweeping you away into darkness and chaos. This is a man's (Henri's) cry from his heart, soul, and mind. An incredible spiritual expression of the human condition.

A Cry for Mercy is a book that points to the real and very powerful presence of the Divine Spirit who is promised to us by our Lord as a never-failing guide. It is my hope," writes Nouwen, "that those who recognize in these prayers the cries of their own hearts will also recognize the quiet prayer of God's Spirit in the midst of their own halting and stuttering words

prayers from the Genesee. Prayers from the Genesee.

  • This is a wonderful book. I have owned a copy for many years and I use it regularly. Very profound yet simple to apply to one's own life. A must for all Catholics and other Christians.

  • This book has been out of print for a while, and that is unfortunate. It's a wonderful collection of short, very accessible prayers by somebody completely dedicated to God but not afraid to show his humanity and share his struggles. I often gave it as a gift in the past. I think it can provide tremendous encouragement and hope that it will soon be widely available again.

  • Over the years I have gone through Nouwen's book of prayers 30-40 times. I consider it the finest collection I have ever read. It is deeply personal; Nouwen shares many feelings and in the midst some marvelous worship material about the three Persons of the Trinity.

  • Remarkable insite to views on questioning personal reflections.

  • Nouwen, even after 25 years, is still great spiritual reading!

  • One of my favorite Henri Nouwen books.

  • I love the vulnerability demonstrated in his prayers. I would recommend this book to Christians new and old. To those simply trying to find their way. I am excited to read it again

  • Touching and honest. Oh if he only could have lived with that transparency.
