Book by Benton, Thomas Hart
  • If you are interested in Thomas Hart Benton, you must have this book! After reading it you will really understand who Benton was...not from some intellectual art critic's point of view but from tagging along with Tom on his adventures as he grows up learning his craft, travels to France for further studies, struggles to make a living at his craft and literally walks throughout the back roads of the mid-west and the south meeting and drawing the characters and scenes you've grown to love in his wonderful paintings. There's much more to learn about ol Tom than I have time to write. Just buy it and indulge yourself! It's like sitting down to a full plate of the most delicious comfort food you can dream up! Very entertaining! In fact, it's been a while since I've read it now and I've just talked myself into a plate of "seconds"! Now where is that copy?

  • This is a must-read for anyone wanting to progress as a visual artist, but it is not about the techniques of painting and drawing. It tells of Benton's early life and how he got started, how he found himself as an artist by sketching the plain folk of Martha's Vineyard, and how he traveled across the back roads and footpaths of the country sketching and gathering material for his great murals.

  • I am still reading this book, so no reviews yet; however, the delivery was fast, and the copy is almost brand new, which makes this purchase a good decision. I will buy again from this vendor!

  • GREAT read. Shows the intelligence and wide ranging interests of the artist. Very interesting to read how he changed his ideas about the art he wanted to portray.

  • I've been wanting to read this book for years. Benton was a fine writer as well as a great painter. This is a nice edition of his book.

  • Great book and service from the re-seller was AMAZING!!!!!

  • The 4th Revised Edition (ISBN # 0826203949): "This new edition contains 76 drawings that add much to his narrative, plus a foreword discussing Benton's place in American art and an afterword covering his career after 1968...." by Baigell. Chronology. Bibliography.
