  • I am a history buff...especially the going ons of WWII.....when I saw this book, I was very excited and couldn't wait to read it...I was not disappointed...I love biographies....it gave a personal insight of Sir Winston Churchill and the difficulties of guarding a prominent person

  • Tom Hickman has taken Cmd. Walter Thompson's story and highlighted the most interesting aspects of his role as Churchill's bodyguard. I found the book fascinating and enticing to read. Having read it, I dared to wonder what might have happened had Great-Grandpapa not had Thompson by his side for all those years, especially through the Blitz.

  • Arrived timely and exactly as expected. Purchases for book club.

  • An interesting read.

  • For the espionage fan or Churchill admirer this is a must. Long and detailed it fills in all the gaps in our knowledge of the dangers the PM faced daily even long before WWII.

  • A quite different sort of viewpoint for this subject. It was and is an easily read book. It is not a dry history as so much of this sort can be. The author has a good knack at writing the history/action/behavior of the subject in a enjoyable manner.

It is specialty book that probably interests a few...but I'd recommend it to many.

  • Not really a history of the bodyguard so much as a history of traveling and being around Winston Churchill. Lots of the author's commentary/opinions with some quotes or thoughts about what the bodyguard thought.

  • I fear that I must agree with Mr. Poirier's review of this book. It is fun to read and has many agreeable anecdotes but it does not seem to be much about Mr. Thompson. Perhaps it is just what one would expect when one man is a charismatic world leader and the others purpose is to be neither seen or heard.
