Clipped and dryly related memoirs of a former and longtime African game warden in the Serengeti National Park. Raised in Kenya, British-born Turner came full-circle into the conservation movement after more than a decade of work in the 1940's as a paid government hunter(destroying crop-raiding animals) and a professional safari leader. We learn of Turner's slowly achieved successes in reducing wide-scale poaching; his establishment of new and effective ranger stations; his dealings with dignitaries, visiting VIP's, and noted scientists: and his personal experiences with wife, Kay, in raising a family in the wild.

Myles Turner (1921–1984) was a warden of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania from 1956 to 1972. His efforts enabled the park to survive its formative years and grow into one of Africa's finest parks. Turner was born in England but spent most of his childhood in Kenya. He served in Africa during World War II and joined the Kenya Game Department in 1946 as a Game Control Officer. Three years later, he became a hunting tour leader with an East African company.
