  • I was interested in reading the true story of John McCain, a man I consider to be a true hero. What I found through reading this book, only made me admire him more. Written without concern for his own ego, he bares his soul, admits his shortcomings very candidly, and reassures the reader of the true character John McCain possesses, without trying to do so. This book made me even prouder to be an American than I thought possible. If Trump would read this book he might issue his first-ever apology. That would be a good start.

  • This book was a gift to my husband ~ who is not a reader. This is the first book he read this year. He found John McCain's history of his grandfather and father extremely interesting. McCain gave a very good recount of his time at the Naval Academy. My husband found John McCains recount of his time of captivity during Vietnam inspirational. He felt John McCain is the true definition of courage.

  • I was concerned this book may be a bit political, but it wasn't. I was also concerned of the POW torture descriptions, but it's pretty G rated. McCain tells an interesting story, tracing his family heritage to parts of our history I had no idea they impacted. Being a female, the actual nuts and bolts of the ships and seafaring made me skip a few paragraphs here and there, but the overall story was fantastic. McCain tells many ancedotes about his family history and his own at the Naval Academy, and I laughed out loud many times as I read the book. My husband kept asking me, "What are you reading?" I had no idea he was such a good storyteller. Regardless of your political beliefs, I think most people would find this book entertaining and informative. My favorite part was the telling of Pearl Harbor history from his grandparents' time and how the officers would receive visitors from the new arrivals and they would present themselves with notes on a tray with both women and men wearing formalwear. It is such a history lesson of social classes, too. Very interesting!

  • Inspirational well written account of the Life of John McCain. Authors personal history provides perspective to the events of Vietnam and McCain's inspiration to provide leadership and service to others. Very engaging and thought provoking description of his history. I had read this years ago and my daughter requested it for a High School history report on the life of a famous person. She enjoyed the book and has a greater appreciation for the sacrifice service members and POWs make for their nation. The faith of our fathers credits the spiritual foundation gained in early life for providing direction for success later in life. This book has inspired her to consider a career in service to the nation. She said she could no longer think about juts going to college to get a job. she wants to do something worthwhile for others. Recommended to anyone interested in learning more about John McCain or how one man dealt with life's challenges.

  • I gave this book 5 stars because of the heroism and courage of Senator McCain. It was also very interesting to read of the exploits of his grandfather and father during World War II. My father-in-law spent his career in submarines and the story of McCain's father avoiding detection was not only breathtaking, it gave me great insight into the courage of my father-in-law. Finally, the book told the story of devastation in the face of extremis and redemption through acceptance and a life of public service. No matter what your political position, this book is not about a Republican it is about an American hero and his family.

  • I am retired military. I spent a year in Thailand during the Vietnam war. I had not read this book and I should have many years ago. I served at the Naval Postgraduate School with one of the Hanoi Hilton prisoners. He had written a book about his imprisonment that was not as inspiring as this one and had many more doubts about many of the things that John McCain found strength in. It tainted my view of their imprisonment. Faith of My Fathers was inspiring and motivating and I thank John McCain for writing it. I think "survivor's guilt" is a real thing and this book and my recent trip back to SE Asia have helped alleviate some, if not most, of that lingering guilt.

  • Senator McCain and his comrades in prisoned in Vietnam are clearly some of the bravest and most honorable people you will ever hear about in these pages. Many paid the ultimate price for the freedom we enjoy today.

This story encourages our hearts about The United States, although not always perfect, still an amazingly wonderful place to live.

  • Enjoyed this biography very much. Learning about the lives of his father and grandfather, and a look at his schooling and military service allows one to gain a bit of understanding of what made this gentleman the outstanding person he is. Thank you for your lifetime of service, Senator McCain.
