Carey Cash Your faith will be renewed as you read of a revival in the war torn deserts of Iraq. I read this book before I deployed to Iraq as a Navy chaplain in 2005.

It is a story of war with all the terrible consequences that go with it. Above all, it is the story of deliverance from the hands of the enemy by a loving, faithful and true God. It is a story of miracles during mayhem, love defeating hate as well as God pursuing man and man's response. Your faith will be renewed as you read of a revival in the war torn deserts of Iraq. Joshua, David and other 'Warriors' for the faith experienced the power of God many, many years ago. That same God still works today. While it "freaked me out" a bit at that time, it prepared me well for ministry to Marines.

Carey Cash is a Godly man who truley "Walks the Walk". I Highly recommend this book, especially to my brothers and sisters in Christ and my brothers and sisters of the Navy/Marine Corps Team. “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”–Psalm 23:5There are some places where you just don’t expect to find God. For the men of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, downtown Baghdad was one of those places. Moving into the heart of Iraq and ever deeper into enemy territory, they found themselves face-to-face with the ruthless Iraqi Republican Guard and Fedayeen militia. But when the smoke cleared, God’s touch was clearly visible.Serving as a chaplain to the U.S. Marines, Lieutenant Carey Cash had witnessed the miracles that began in the desert of northern Kuwait, and found their culmination in one of the fiercest battles of Operation Iraqi Freedom. With vivid detail and gripping emotion, Lt. Cash gives a firsthand account of this amazing story–how the men of an entire battalion found God in the presence of their enemies.
  • This is the story of the 1st. Battalion, 5th Marines as they cross the border into Iraq in 2003. These are battle hardened (or soon to be), rough, tough men. It is also the story of their Chaplain, fellow warrior and friend, Lt. Carey Cash. It is a story of war with all the terrible consequences that go with it. Above all, it is the story of deliverance from the hands of the enemy by a loving, faithful and true God. It is a story of miracles during mayhem, love defeating hate as well as God pursuing man and man's response.
Just as in Biblical times, God is with the faithful on the battlefield as well as in His temples.
If you have ever asked, "Where is God during tough times?", this is the book for you. If you are dealing with doubts and fears, this is the book for you. If you think God isn't listening, Yep this is the book for you.
Your faith will be renewed as you read of a revival in the war torn deserts of Iraq. Joshua, David and other 'Warriors' for the faith experienced the power of God many, many years ago. That same God still works today. He still performs battlefield miracles. He still calls men unto Himself.
This important work by Chaplain Lt. Carey Cash was written from his heart; from his experiences in the line of fire. Here is a warrior, a Christian and a friend like few ever know. As he shepherds his men he also leads them to the 'shepherd' of all men.
This book is a tremendous testimony of 'God in the trenches.' He didn't abandon these Marines and he won't abandon you, no matter where your 'trench' may be.

  • I read this book over the weekend. The truth is I couldn't put it down. It was special to me because the story is about the unit I was with in Iraq, in 2003. There are people and events in the book that I know and remember well. I read the entire thing in less than 24 hours, which is good for me. It probably would have been less, but it is hard to read with tears in your eyes.

It is really about the power of God to do anything, and real life examples of how He intervenes in our lives. Whether we acknowledge it or not, it is true. Believe, or don't believe. It is up to you. However, I experienced or witnessed many of the events that are detailed in this book, and I absolutely believe that God is real and He is involved in our lives. It took me a long time to accept that, but I believe it with all my heart.

In retrospect, my experiences in Iraq were not the first time in my life I witnessed God's power, and they were definitely not the last time either.

I encourage everyone to read this book.

  • I read this book before I deployed to Iraq as a Navy chaplain in 2005. While it "freaked me out" a bit at that time, it prepared me well for ministry to Marines. Chaplain Cash's unapologetic approach to God's protection was difficult to reconcile when, for whatever reason, some don't seem to be as protected. However, he does not shy away from this dilemma toward the end of the book. He readily admits his own theological questions regarding this, but also speaks of God's comfort in the midst of confusion and pain. 10 years later: I am honored to be serving with him at the Naval Academy. Without a doubt, he is the real deal. This book receives my highest recommendation, particularly for those who are interested in military ministry.

  • I just finished reading this the third time. Paper large print about ten years ago and now twice on my kindle. It is so amazing to see how God prepared each person for this tour of duty and His presence was Always with them. I am so thankful that Carey took the time to put the events into a book that can be shared and remind us that God's presence is with us, even when things do not go as we expect them to.

  • This book is the encouragement you need if you have grown tired of listening to the Main stream media trash our soldiers, our nation, and our faith in the God of our fathers. The earnestness of these soldiers as they faced their own fallenness and their fears on the edge of going into battle will touch your heart and remind you that the OWS is not the bunch that is on the mind of and in the heart of God. The innocent faith of these young men as they lose and rediscover a special pocket Bible, undamaged after being lost in a wind, rain, and hailstorm and believe it is a sign from God that he will protect them -- these tough marines -- is borne out when the most intense battle of the war is over and they recount their stories of they were spared and comforted and encouraged and kept. Though they lost one much beloved gunnery sargent, and many others were tremendously injured, they knew the voice of the One who came to them and said in the midst of battle 'It's going to be all right. I am with you.' If you are sick of the assaults on our heritage by the Marxist morons who hate God and the righteous, this book is for you. Young men like these are the hope of our nation. Young men like these being drawn into the presence of God in the worst battle in the war, are the reminder to us that God is not done with the United States of America. The earth will be inherited by the meek, and soldiers carrying big guns and fighting to protect the world from evil can indeed be part of 'the meek.' If you are sick of being told that Islam is 'the religion of peace' and instead want to be encouraged that the 'Prince of Peace' was walking in the midst of our soldiers as they moved through a hail of RPG's to take one of Saddam's evil castles, then this is the book for you. And if you need to become acquainted with achaplain with a tender heart, wisdom, love for his men, this is the book for you. Chaplain Cash's love for the military and its strength used in the service of righteousness can wipe away the grime and the garbage that the leftists have tried to cover our military with. This is the antidote. This is the reminder that the God of Israel and His Messiah are at work in the world, and he does take sides, and his side is to hear the cries of all those who trust in him. And he does fight on their side, and there is a right and a wrong and truth and the lie. If you are sickened to death with all the moral relativists in this world blaming us and excusing the truly wicked, this close up view of the goodness of our soldiers and their leaders will be a solid comfort to you. It was to me. I almost felt like Elijah, that I was the only one left, and I myself am old. But what God is doing in our young generation of warriors indicates that He, even more so than John Paul Jones, has just begun to fight. The trust of our soldiers in the Lord in the midst of that terrible battle ended in elation; and each of them had their own personal story of watching impossible things happen.
