Few books have stood the test of time like the Betty Crocker Cookbook ; none have kept up as well with the times and how people cook today.

Hector and I hadn’t been invited to many either when we were in seventh grade, just to Simon’s and the ones that included the whole class, but what mother would allow her brat to invite one twin and. not the other?Apparently, quite a few of them. Our whole family got invited to Simon’s sister’s, and the Mims decided. I had to wear a suit.

Set in the rolling hills and villages of the Cotswolds and brimming with warmth and intrigue, this collection of twelve short stories from Rebecca Tope features familiar characters and places from her popular Cotswold Mystery novels. A suspicious funeral, a fatal encounter at a garden centre, and a country walk marred by the discovery of a hidden corpse, are just some of the perplexing situations with which Thea Osborne, her friends and a further cast of characters must contend.

Besides, since the moment she had set eyes on him, not half an hour ago, she had fallen in love with hi. You are prepared to start work on Monday, Miss Paige?’ Matilda said yes, of course, and wished that he would smile. Probably he was tired or hadn’t had time for a proper breakfast that morning. That he had a good housekeeper she had already found out for herself, whose brother did the gardening and odd jobs. She had also discovered that he was. Like.

Maggie Kahin was a remarkable woman. She was heir to a clipper ship fortune, a well-educated intellectual raised in Litchfield, Connecticut. Yet Maggie grew up in frustration, by circumstance and upbringing unable to relate to others, to express her inner feelings, fears, joys and sorrows. She married, raised two children and devoted herself to her husband's career, only to be devastated by an unexpected divorce. Recalling Wyoming's mind-saving way of life she'd discovered on visits to a dude ranch in earlier years, Maggie fled to the Rockies. There in the peaceful solitude of the mountains, she slowly but surely found mental and spiritual rejuvenation and became able to express herself in a special way. Near Dubois, Wyoming, she founded Ring Lake Ranch, an internationally known ecumenical retreat. She went on to become a communicator and a Methodist minister. And although Maggie passed away before seeing all her efforts bear fruit, she leaves a very warm feeling in all who knew her. It is seldom an author is able to give the reader a real window into another's life. In "Maggie," Betty Case has transcended normal biographical writing. Somehow, Betty passed beyond the outer self, to find Maggie Kahin's true inner being and personality, and gives us a wonderfully refreshing story of a true visionary.

  • I met Maggie and attended the ranch in 1978. This year the ranch is celebrating 50 years and I had never read the book about her.
