The Complete Spa Manual for Homeowners: A Step-by-step Maintenance and Therapy Guide.

An untiring and dedicated Pool Doctor, he has become the go to man for owners of some of the world's largest, most ornate, and expensive private swimming pools including that of award-winning actor Mr. John Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston. Dan started working on pools as a boy in his dad's firm. Not content with doing routine maintenance, he began learning all he could about chemicals, mechanics, and safety. The Complete Spa Manual for Homeowners: A Step-by-step Maintenance and Therapy Guide.

Dan J. Hardy was born August 16, 1953, in Hereford, TX. His background in pool maintenance began on his dad's . The book fell flat on that. Decent high level overview for a complete novice, and I imagine the author knows a good deal about pools-- but very litle here I found useful. His background in pool maintenance began on his dad's country club in Clovis, NM, in 1976. Ten years later, he opened his own business delivering and setting up spas and doing pool work at pre-manufactured homes in Albuquerque, NM. He moved to Ocala, FL, in 1998 and opened Dan's Perfect Pool Service, Pool Palace, Mount View Enterprises, LLC, and then D & C Enterprises. Nothing is discussed in detail.

I was specifically interested in the "therapy" part of the book and it didn't disappoint. However, I learned much more about the care of the spa than I had expected to. Aside from health benefits and patio design Dan Hardy provides information on how to make a decision on what type of spa would work best for you. I found the section on equipment very interesting. I hadn't thought about how the spa actually works or what it entails before.

In any event, get out there and sell.

The concept of The Startup Owner’s Manual is that it’s like a car repair manual but for startup owners. In this book, Steve Blank and Bob Dorf detail all the work (and fun) that needs to happen before launching a product. With so much information, it’s a big book. Use the customer relationships hypothesis to guide your selection of metrics to track and prioritize the metrics. Predictably Irrational by Philip E. Tetlock and Dan Gardner has some great insight on pricing schemes. In any event, get out there and sell. Once you have sales, you will have data.

If you are a pool owner, you have made a major investment and proper swimming pool maintenance is an absolute must! Keeping your pool clean and maintained should be a top priority since a clean pool is essential in many ways. First, no one wants to swim in, or look at, a dirty, green, or yellow pool. Keep in mind that although the pool may look clean, it may in fact be still contaminated with enough bacteria to cause sickness. If a pool is not maintained properly it can get very expensive to clean or fix at a later date.

Dan Hardy has used every available resource in his 20-year career as a pool professional to add to his store of knowledge about making and keeping water safe. • Like many readers here, I have earned a modest amount of pool knowledge from reading and speaking to many pool contractors and retailers of various sorts. I've grown from zero pool knowledge to pretty good understanding of the basics in a little over a year. I hoped this book would give solid technical information to help me truly understand all the complexities of pool equipment, operation and chemistry. The book fell flat on that. Decent high level overview for a complete novice, and I imagine the author knows a good deal about pools--- but very litle here I found useful. Nothing is discussed in detail. The writing is poor ... and the index and overall organization are horrible. You will never ever pick up this book and get the answer to a troubleshooting question.... I've learned this... pools are more complex than they seem... and people who say otherwise are typically blissfully ignorant of how poor their pool equipment and chemistry may be. And the options out there (equipment, chemicals, etc)are mind boggling without first hand advice for pros to differentiate between what is "good" and what is "useless". And sadly, many "pros" are either too ignorant, dedicated to one way of doing things, not up to date on new equipment/techniques, or downright greedy and dishonest (especially many pool "service" companies... at least in Florida). This book is of little value for those who want to become competent at selecting equipment and solving the never-ending stream of problems/issues that come with pool ownership.

 • While this book is informative on a lot of levels, as a first time pool owner, I don't know what a lot of the tools named even look like! If there were more pictures of the tools and some procedures, it would be much easier to understand. I don't just want to know WHAT tools to use, I would like to know what they LOOK like. To explain that a certain procedure needs to be performed is one thing, but I would like an example of the procedure. To have pictures of these simple things would make this book much more useful. The only pictures in it are examples of different styles of pools and spas. I already have a pool so to see different styles, is of no use to me. This is supposed to be a book on maintenance and care, not to see what other peoples' pools look like. like I said, this is my first pool so I'm learning everything from the ground up and a lot of this stuff is absolutely foreign to me.

 • Used this book as a reference guide when starting my pool route. It came in handy very much. Unlike most books I looked into, this book kept wording and explanations basic so that the beginner pool man was able to understand. I would highly recommend this book to someone who wants to learn more about maintaining pools.

 • While this book gave me most of the information that I needed, I would have preferred it be in a free pamphlet at the pool supply store instead of a "book" that I had to pay for. It is poorly written (but, what did I expect from the owner of a pool service company?... I know, i know, i know) and has some grammatical errors, but books like this are not based on a college english class, they are graded on their information and how well it is translated to the general public. That being said, this book mostly gave me sufficient information for maintaining my own pool. I felt it was a bit scattered and I had to weed through lots of information that didn't pertain to me (i.e. above ground pools or different types of sanitizers) and it was organized poorly, so it is not a book you would go to if you had a problem with your pool equipment because your pool would empty itself before you found the information you were looking for. All in all, I wish I would have gone to a pool supply store to buy a book so I could look through it first. It was a little helpful and answered a lot of my basic questions, but will not be the last book I buy on the subject, unfortunately.

 • The author of this book is a pool guy, he does not pretend to be a professional writer or an English scholar. The book is intended to simply instruct the reader on various maintenance, repair and building techniques. I was able to quickly find all the information that I needed plus the help from "Pinchapenny Pools" to keep my pool in tip top shape.

 • This is a well written book.

 • Well written resource book for any pool owner or maintenance company? It is easy to read and not over the top. It will explain every aspect of design construction and maintenance. You will learn how to take care of your pool and become familiar with pool chemistry. Go ahead and fire your pool boy and enjoy the process of keeping your water healthy, while saving $$.

 • We have a salt water chlorine generator and this book didn't really help with those kind of questions. Then this week I had a question on pool closing and realized that the book was written in Florida and we live in Kansas City, MO and use completely different procedures. Needless to say I am very disappointed with this book.
