This was an almost comprehensive book on the struggle for Latin American independence, with the notable exceptions of Central America south of Mexico and the Caribbean. This book would be a fantastic book for a younger reader, except that it does feature a lot of Massacres and other outrages that the younger reader may find depressing- these wars were dirty. For the ary enthusiast this is a great background source.
