  • I went page by page and by reducing redundancies identified 50 unique ways to promote a web site. The most effective long-term ways to promote a site were also the most difficult to pull off for most of us. They have to do with strategy, the goals of the site and clarity of the vision; delivering in the site what consumers expect and want; using traffic analysis to improve the site; and techniques to win repeat visits. All these things require time, resources and imagination.

    Some techniques were in my view of little help but are still needed when creating a design. These include the many tricks to make a site searchable. A lot of these techniques work only in the short run and some are out of date. Altogether, one can glean useful information from this book and discard or scan much of it.

  • This book was the text for a course I took on the International Webmaster's Association web site. The course, Web Site Promotion, has a syllabus which matches this text fairly closely. I found the course and the book very useful.
    The book functioned exactly as a textbook should. It provided fairly complete discussions of the several topics and a great deal of resource information including especially web sites providing a wide range of information and opportunities.
    The course and the book has provided me with a far more complete inventory of sources, possibilities, definitions, techniquies, etc. than I have been able to come up with on my own. I intend to keep the book nearby as a reference for quite a while.
    There is no question about the rapid change on the web. You must have a network of contacts that you can use to get up to date in any given area at the time you need to give attention to that area. You must have a network of contacts and websites that will enable to you learn about the NEW topics, areas, techniques, etc. that have been introduced to the web world at any point in time. But this book has given me a good starting base to work from now.
    The writing is clear, the organization is good. If you already have your own network established and your own mental working model of the internet functions that interest you then you don't need this book. But if you are a relative beginner like me or if you haven't gone about your searches and record keeping in an organized way this book will definitely be worth the money.

  • If you have a website and would like to bring more traffic to it, then you must get this book. Susan Sweeney covers everything you need to know about promoting your website from every angle. The book is filled with information, links to informative websites, hints and concrete examples. This is a "how to" in the very best of the meaning. I had asked some marketing "gurus" in the past but their answers were vague at best. Susan Sweeney gives specific advice. If you don't follow it, then the loss...in web traffic...will be yours. She explains insider knowledge about how search engines work, how to rewrite your pages to be more search-engine friendly, what interesting features to add to keep people returning to your site, and a lot of technical jargon which was a mystery to me...until I got this book. I've implemented several ideas in this book and have seen my web traffic increase dramatically. If you're a web designer or are developing your own site, then this will quickly become a favorite resource.

  • I've been a late entry into the world of internet marketing, so I've had a very steep learning curve.

    This book is well laid out and does contain a lot of really great ideas that we are using, and others that we intend to add in the very near future.

    My biggest surprise was that neither the index or the Appendix containing some of the appropriate terminology, has a single entry for words like Blog, Podcast or Vlog! All of which are becoming progressively more important, and have become incredibly popular with internet users. As hard as it is for any book to remain current in the rapidly changing world of the internet, these are suprising omissions for the Fifth Edition of a book that is dated 2005.

    I do hope that Susan will bring out a Sixth Edition and include all of those and some of the other technologies appearing on the horizon.

    Despite those gaps the book still has a lot to offer, for which it deserves four stars.

  • All the research has been done for me. A great book for online marketing, it is my forever marketing bible.

  • THis is a very easy to read book, with some examples, some times i wish those were more detailed but they are good... it PIN POINT the clue points (sorry for so many points ) to have more traffic in your page and to correct most of the mistakes made in the desing stage. Bring this idea to my mind... "Web Designers are not the best web Traffic designers for a page " so read this book is a good starting poing....
