Glass' lettering cannot go unnoticed here. He has created a font unique to each kind of creature in the series. So the look of the words that come out of the mice' mouths is very different from the words that come from the rats' mouths. Writer: Bryan J. The Templar have fallen, leaving the natural world in the grip of tyrants and ever-increasing chaos. The promise of restoration for the Templar and the salvation of all creatures now lies in the paws of the newly-knighted Karic. Mice Templar Volume 5 Paperback – 15 November 2016. Admittedly I have not read the previous four volumes but a synopsis at the beginning explains a lot. by Bryan J. Glass (Author), Victor Santos (Artist), Serena Guerra (Artist), Michael Avon Oeming (Artist) & 1 more. This volume is basically one long battle as the templars (with help from cats and owls) take back the kingdom from the rats, weasels and bats. There are a lot of characters and I didn't feel the need ot know who was who.

Karic might be the Chosen One...but what does such a title even mean for the young mouse who desires only to save his family from a monstrous fate. Under the training of exile Cassius, Karic learns what it truly is to be a Templar knight and warrior. While One-Arm Leito rallies his fellow prisoners, struggling to become a leader against impossible odds, both mice find themselves on a collision course with destiny. • This review is of the hardcover version of "The Mice Templar vol.2.1: Destiny Part 1". I didn't see the hardcover as an option to be reviewed, so I'm using this format since they are probably the same aside from the handsome oversized, sturdy hardcover with its ribbon bookmark. I could be wrong. I've never seen the softcover, so it may not have all of the extras the hardcover does, or the pages may not be of the same quality. I don't know. I would recommend buying the hardcover. Believe me, this is an epic tale that you will want to own in its most beautiful and high-quality version.

Now, I won't go into much detail here. You can check out my review of "The Mice Templar vol.1: The Prophecy" HC if you want to know more about why I feel this is such an amazing series. All I really want to say here is that if you are a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, you owe it to yourself to pick this up. This series continues to be my favorite of all-time(tied with "Hellboy" and possibly "Spawn"). The sprawling epic fantasy adventure that is "The Mice Templar" is nothing short of brilliant. The world created by Glass and Oeming is, in my opinion, unrivaled in comics in terms of sheer depth. The Jaws of Wotan or The Dark Lands(just a couple of the names for the world in which the story takes place) is so rich with history and compelling characters, that the only other worlds this vast and wonderous are those created by such luminaries as Tolkien, Howard, Rowling and Jaques. That is some mighty fine company to be in.

The creative team for this volume has remained the same except for the pencils and inks(which are done by Santos) and the colors(which are now done by Gandini). And although I was disappointed when first hearing this- having loved Oeming's and Quintana's work on volume 1 so much- Santos and Gandini were not only up to the task, but they surpassed all my expectations. Santos was chosen personally by Oeming to replace him, and he does an incredible job of staying very close to the same style as Oeming, adding just a slight touch of his own to the look of the series. And Gandini does a magnificent job of staying true to the coloring style of Quintana. All of this allows for a smooth transition from volume 1 to 2.1.

I love this series. Buy volume 1 and volumes 2.1 and 2.2(yes, I've read 2.2 and things only get better!). This series is a treasure. Plain and simple.
