This item:Spider-Man: Homecoming Prelude by Marvel ComicsĀ . What an amazing missed opportunity. I really miss when Marvel did real movie adaptions, the CA:CW adaption here is sub-par. It REALLY should have been done better.

What an amazing missed opportunity. All they did was turn the airport scene from Civil War into a two part comic, and then added some Stan Lee/Steve Ditco single issue comics where Spidey faces the Vulture.

  • Let me just say I have been a spider man fan since I was 9 years old in 1992 and I really want everyone to read this book. Classic Spider man writer Gerry Conway makes a triumphant return to the character, and he understands Spider Man the character better than anyone in recent memory!

Renew your vows takes us to a paralel reality where the events of 'One mpre day' never happened. Peter Parker is a man, with a hot wife, and a fun kid. He still worries about paying rent, and getting groceries, and the family supports one another! This is way better than the spider manchild in the main Dan Slott Spider Man books. So please read and support this book, that I have been waiting for for maybe 15 years or so, you won't regret it!

  • Unfortunately, this is a one-off series that won't have any effect on the main Spider-Man continuity, which is a shame, because it's easily the best Spider-related thing this side of Spider-Gwen. Not a challenging series by any stretch of the imagination, "Renew Your Vows" isn't dark, and there's no Grand Message to impart.. The series is a refreshing dose of pure fun, plain and simple. The plots mostly deal with how fruitless it is to try to stop Mary-Jane Watson-Parker -- still married to Pete in this reality, thank God -- and Spidey-spawn Annie from becoming superheroes. Speaking of Annie, she's easily the best part of the series, Spider-Man's answer to RUNAWAYS' Molly Hayes. She thinks being a super hero is the coolest thing ever, but still doesn't understand why Peter and Mary-Jane have zero energy left for Family Fun Night after narrowly winning a battle with Regent, the Big Bad, who is capturing superheroes so he can steal their powers.

  • Very fun book, I love the concept of a family of superheroes. Like Fantastic Four but with a more relatable father figure. I'm hoping the series continues well beyond this book.

  • I love just about everything about this book, love the art, love the story, how they portrayed the Spider family, Peter and MJ struggles to live are replaced with balancing family and raising a kid, it's just such a heartwarming read. Makes you wonder why Marvel split up Spider-Man and MJ in normal continuity, at least they gave us this.

  • This series truly feels like Spider-Man. Not that garbage that Dan Slott is writing in the mainstream continuity.

  • Awesome AU but I have one gripe: Where was the Spinnerete concept over a decade ago?

  • This book collects Amazing Spider-man: Renew Your Vows #1-5 of the main series. This spins off from a Secret Wars universe where Peter and Mary Jane stayed married and they end up with a precocious daughter named Annie who starts developing Spider powers.

Despite this all technically being one storyline, actually I'd suggest the 5th part is a 1-part story. Issues 1-4 set up our premise: Annie has developing spider powers and thanks to a device seized from the Regent, Mary Jane can tap into Peter's spider-powers. This leads to a battle with the Moleman. The story isn't neatly chronological, but reading it in a trade helps with that as we see the events from each character's perspective. Also Issue 1 has some very fun back up stories featuring amusing tales of Annie interacting with her mom and Dad. Overall, the first story is strong, but not perfect. The family really starts to explorer how this will work as well as beginning to muddle through what role a 9 year old girl would have in this.

Issue 5 them breaking up a bank robbery across from a family fun center based on Chuck E Cheese. This one is fun but light and a tad pointless, although there's hints of the plotline ahead.

Overall, this book is quite enjoyable. It's a great concept and the characters are likable enough. While the story's light-hearted, it doesn't shy away from the serious challenges this presents particularly when it comes to a young child fighting crime. The back up stories are fun and the emergence of Norman Osborne's prepubescent grandson as a villain is hilarious yet intriguing. Overall, this is just a fun comic for all ages. Highly recommended.

  • This was a fun story but it seems a bit meandering in places. Love the art though.
