  • Terrible book, horribly written and poorly executed. The phrase don't judge a book by it's cover does not apply to this book. The mini quizzes and quality of writing in this book match the bland, under thought out design of the cover. The mini quizzes had questions that didn't match the information given throughout the book. I would advise against getting this book, not only because it was written two years ago and tech has changed quite a bit since then but also because there are better written tech info books out there.

  • Great product at great price! Thanks for your services!

  • Good

  • As described

  • Is RIDDLED with outdated and misinformation, such as page 10 claim Netscape Navigator [which has been defunct for about 10 years] is one of the most widely used web browsers. Add a reference to Macromedia Shockwave which long ago was acquired by Adobe and then made obsolete by Flash. Then a claim that RealPlayer is one of the most popular media players.

In addition, its usage of the word "SPECIAL" to replace any sort of meaningful description on a wide range of subjects, actually ALL subjects, is distracting at the least, and downright frustrating and a personal insult considering the textbook's pricetag (higher than listed on Amazon because of course's required access pass). I strongly feel PCs For Dummies would have been a more valuable, accurate, informative, and less insulting selection. Indeed, I feel "special" when reading this book.

Then there are "Careers in IT" boxes which are filler just like the rest of this garbage. Here is an example of a caption under a photo of a woman sitting by a computer monitor; the photo takes up 1/6 of a page: "Hi, I'm Katie and I'm a desktop publisher. I'd like to talk with you about some very interesting specialized applications... including desktop publishing." At the end of the chapter, 13 pages later, the same photo is displayed with a different caption: "Now that you have learned about some of the most important specialized applications, let me tell you about my job in desktop publishing," which is next to a small section of 3 paragraphs which instructs the reader to go to computing-2012.com "for more information." When you go to the stupid website, there is not more information. There is DIFFERENT information.

    Inconsistent between sold-as-a-package platforms:
SimNet (paid for addon) identifies the five components of an information system as:

    · purpose, people, IT, procedures, and data,

whereas CE2012 identifies the components as:

    · people, procedures, software, hardware, and data

In the event of a test question, which is correct? (Moreover, why are these sources not aligned?)

As for the online access passes, I feel I as a student am being jipped, as the university includes online testing services in its general tuition, in fact as part of its framework as being an educational institution! (This particular complaint cannot be attributed to this product but to a departmental choice at my university to slough off making their own tests when the better choice would be to skip this vendor altogether).

I am a working adult who has little patience for nonsense, and when that nonsense is combined with this absurd pricetag, I am plainly furious!
