  • Good review for Network+. I bought this book last year not realizing that the test would expire as of 9/1/15. Picked it back up a week ago to find out the test version for this book was expiring at the end of the month. I read it for 5- 6 days and reviewed on the 7th. In between I took the practice exams AS WELL as some other practice exams I got online. The more the better. I noticed the actual test questions were harder and less attempts were made at tricking you (wording of questions or object, protocol, etc. that doesn't exist) like these practice questions did. I find some areas in the book that they did not go into much detail on that were on the test. Net+ certified now. On to Security+. Anybody want to buy the outdated Security+ SY0-301?? Ha! Seriously, CHECK THE VERSIONS OF BOOK COMPARED TO VERSIONS OF TESTS AND WHEN THEY EXPIRE!!!! Good luck!

  • I purchased this book in order to supplement my Network+ N10-005 exam studies. This is a great book that includes a lot of information that one needs to know in order to master the Network+ exam objectives. The layout of the book is very good, and I enjoyed the ExamAlert boxes scattered throughout the text that alerted the reader to very important topics, terms, or concepts that were very likely to appear on the actual Network+ exam. I also enjoyed the review questions scattered throughout each chapter. These came in handy because one could read a section and then answer the review questions to see if you learned the concepts presented in that section. Also, this Exam Cram book includes two 100 question practice tests in the last section of the book. This is largely why I purchased this book; I wanted more practice tests.

The Exam Cram book also includes a CD with practice test software on it. This is also why I purchased this book; I knew it had practice tests in the book and practice tests on the included CD. Long story short, I discovered that the practice tests on the included CD looked to be identical to those in the book. I was very disappointed by this and felt that this should be communicated upfront. This is why I deducted one star. However, I did find the book to be helpful and the two 100 question practice tests were great.

I also purchased and studied the CompTIA Network+ Certification Kit Recommended Courseware: Exam N10-005 by Todd Lammle. I studied this Kit first and purchased the Exam Cram book afterwards in order to review more for the Network+ exam (the test is expensive and I wanted to make sure I passed it the first time I took it). I also purchased the CompTIA Network+ N10-005 Exam Prep app for iPhone by learnZapp. This app had a lot more practice questions, and I feel that taking a lot of practice tests is a good way to ensure that you are ready for the actual certification exam.

Overall, the Exam Cram book is a great Network+ study guide. The formatting of the book is very good, as are the topics and concepts covered. It is not quite as in-depth as other Study Guides, but it is only meant to be a book that covers Network+ essentials. All in all, it does that very well. It is a great book to use as a final review before taking the actual Network+ exam, and the included practice tests are well worth the money. I only wish it included different practice tests on the CD.

By the way, I passed my Network+ exam a few days ago!

  • This book is an excellent book, I crammed over this past week (13 Oct 2014-17 Oct 2014) Took the test today and I passed. One thing that caught me on the test was the simulations they had. However, each simulation, although they had multiple answers to them only represented as one question. The rest of the test was multiple choice. The only improvement to the CD of this book I would include would be the computer/network simulations.

    Tips:
-If you've been in the IT field for any period of time, this book is good to go over before taking the test.
-If your new to the IT industry, you may want to read more in depth.

I've gained a lot of my skills by being in the IT field for a while now, this book is good. As far as IP addresses class and Subnetting goes, go to youtube, there are some people with excellent ways of explaining it.

  • I'm 17, the only knowledge I had with networks before this book was from the A+ CRAM which BTW is an excellent book.
Whenever I study for these certs, I read the book cover to cover ensuring I understanding almost everything said. In order to do that with this book, I had to use another study guide (Mike Myers) together with Professor Messer's videos and reference almost everything, all because this book doesn't explain much. Sometimes it looks as if the authors themselves doesn't fully understand the concepts. I didn't do much practice question for this exam, only the 200 that came with the book. My score on the real exam was 836 (93%) the multiple choice was fairly easy but the first two performance base got me nervous and affected my thinking for the rest. Thought this book would have been short yet comprehensive like the A+ CRAM but I was wrong! In the end, due to the research in order to entirely understand this book , I grasp a comprehensive understanding of networks and learnt concepts way more in-depth than Comptia requires. I'm taking security + next, my book of choice is the cert guide :)

  • I took the Network+ exam as an electronics technician with little actual experience in computer networking, and studied with just books and online research, such as Professor Messer's training videos, and scored an 867 on the exam. The Exam Cram book was one of several books I read to prepare for the exam, and contains most of what you need to know for the test. Combined with a book such as Todd Lammle's "Network+ Study Guide", or Kevin Wallace's "Network+ Authorized Cert Guide" (I read them all), after thorough study you should pass the test with no problem. My advice is not to worry too much about passing the exam, as it really isn't very difficult. Just focus on understanding networking, which is what you need to do anyway if you want to work in the field, and if you feel you have achieved this (plus memorizing some factual data such as protocols and ethernet info, etc.) you shouldn't have any problem with the exam. Also, between Lammle's book and the Exam Cram there are lots of relevant questions of the type found on the test.
