  • The Diabetes Menu Cookbook: Delicious Special-Occasion Recipes for Family and Friends

I love these recipes, they are easy and quick. I tried several recipes and they were great. Except I added more spice, we love spice.

  • I loved the simplicity of the menus as well as blend of comfort food ideas. It is sure to become a favorite on your book shelf.

  • I wish you could see inside a cookbook before you buy it. I would not have bought this one. The recipes are yucky. Oh well. At least it wasn't too expensive.

  • Interesting

  • I checked out this book at the library, hoping to find some ideas for eating a balanced carb/protein diet which would control blood sugar. I am so disappointed that I won't even try any recipes, though some may be more or less healthy. In my opinion, a book which is supposed to be for a diabetic diet should never include a pasta main-dish which provides 59 grams of carbs and 19g of protein per serving. "All you need is a salad of fresh greens to round out the meal" (which will add even more carbs!) is the description for this recipe, their Mediterranean-style baked pasta.

The authors include a whole section on sandwiches, even though bread is a high glycemic index food which is better avoided by persons with diabetes. Adding to excessive carb recommendations, the dessert section has selections which have as many grams of carbs as one should eat in his/her whole meal! Not what diabetics need.

To its credit, each recipe is followed by the nutritional contents for one serving and how many servings per recipe. Very helpful.

The book is aptly named: the subtitle is "Delicious Special-Occasion Recipes for Family and Friends" which I take to mean the recipes are not for the individual with Diabetes, but for his/her friends and family.

I recommend looking elsewhere for healthy recipes.

  • As I care for my 74 year old diabetic (former restaurant owner)mother full time -- I am always looking for meals that we both will love. This cookbook really helps. Made the Turkey Burgers last Sunday for us and guests and they were a huge hit! It's the fabulous extras like the red onion sauce in this recipe that make this book so terrific.

  • Great recipes and lots of helpful info. I may have to get another has my cousin borrowed it and hasn't given it back yet ;).

  • I looked through this book and tried a couple of the meals....Yuck is the first word that comes to mind......since that time I have put the book out for recycling. Has to be the worst book purchase I have made
