Southwest the Beautiful Cookbook explores a cuisine as diverse as the terrain and the people who settled there. Have enjoyed the book - though many Recipes similar to Texas book. The book is in excellent shape (used). The region's culinary originality dervies from a historic union of native American.

This book gave me the confidence to become a gourmet cook. The NYC book launch party for The Essential New York Times Cookbook was last week. Here's some photos from the event. Highly recommended! Frank Costantini. Thanks to everyone who was able to make it out. +13. The Essential New York Times Cookbook added 16 new photos to the album NYC Book Launch Party for Amanda Hesser and Melissa Clark. 10 November 2010 ยท. Photo by Brian Quinn.

This oversized paper back edition contains more than two hundred years of receipes, which independent thinking has produced. These receipes and commentaries are based Spanish, French, Mexician, German, middle European, and east Asian influences that make up the population of present day Texas. • I now own four books from the "Beautiful Cookbook" series. This is by far my favorite. The food stylists and photographers for this particular book have raised the bar to a dizzying height. This medley of simple and upscale recipes is presented as down-to-earth...Texas-style. You can almost smell and taste the beautiful food. The stylish photos are works of art.

The recipes range from the traditional basics to "new Texas cuisine." Try to imagine a chilled "Cream of Tomatillo Soup" served in a bowl of ice...with edible flowers and herbs encased in the ice. (The ice bowl is easy to make!)

Does "Hot Crackered Texas Crab with Pecans" sound good? Or "Chili-and-Cheese Corn Husk Muffins with Pumpkin-Seed Topping"? What about "Chorizo-Stuffed Poblanos with Mango Salsa" or "Texas Hot-Pepper Shrimp with Avocado Salsa"? And for dessert, how about "Churros with Cinnamon-Pecan Ice Cream" or "Blueberry Creme Brulee with Rose Geranium"?

These tempting dishes can all be made by the novice cook who enjoys the preparation.

  • Two books with same name, but not the same quality of recipes. This one has, to me, TRUE Texas flavors. I am truely supprised at the difference between the two books. Do not make a mistake and get the one that was first published in the mid 1980's. Until a friend recently told me about a recipe he tried form "Texas the Beautiful", I immediately went to my copy and discovered this recipe was not in it, a call back to Texas, and we both discovered much to our supprise that there were two completely versions. If you like simple, generic,"back of soup can" recipes then the first is for you, if for bold Texas flavors, then this is the one.

  • LOVE this cookbook!! Really, really yummy recipes and beautiful pictures of various areas of Texas. I've really enjoyed reading the short history at the beginning of each section on the different parts of Texas as well. The book was in excellent condition - the outside cover showing very minor wear and the inside pages in perfect condition. The book jacket was missing, but that was not a big deal to me. The price was VERY reasonable as well. A new copy would have cost at least 4 times what I paid.

  • The Beautiful Cookbook series are always a delight and this one is no different. The photos are beautiful and many of the recipes unique. We make an amazing, moist and flavor-filled Texas cornbread from this book and I don't generally care for cornbread. I am anxious to try more recipes. It would be a lovely gift.

  • It is a very interesting cookbook with many different aspects.

I bought all the beautiful cookbooks publ. by Harper/Collins/Weldon Owen, and some others were more in the style I prefer.

  • I have about six of these "Beautiful" cookbooks, and I love them. They ARE beautiful in a coffee table picture book sense, and the recipes are well crafted. I often have "theme" dinner parties, and I bought this one for a Texas party.

  • Good solid recipes. I am a seasoned cook and have tried a half dozen of the recipes in this book. They are not too difficult to execute...but mostly, I just like to look at the pictures. This would make a great gift.

  • Great seller exactly as described. I love this cookbook replacing mine that I have had for sixteen years. So glad I found another one. It was in excellent condition. Hard to find cookbook in this good of shape.,other sellers totally different experience. This one is excellent.
