    Our time needs true innovations. Manufacturing process innovations are the foundation of our economy. Thus, if you need enlighment, you should read this book, rather than superficial books on earning quick moneys through internet.

    People in manufacturing should definitely own this book. Many people graduated from engineering school without a good understanding of engineering. This book get this straight in the first 4 chapters. You will very quickly find that this book can change the way of your thinking. I bet you can greatly improve your power of process innovation once you read this book, possibly more than other books such as books on TRIZ or Lean.

    This book has 700 pages, covering "non-traditional" processes (laser, waterjet, ECM/EDM, ultrasonic machining etc.) and many new directions, such as nanotechnology, bioengineering, 3D fabrication, EM forming, tribology, clever way of polishing, etc. It is a great reference book for manufacturing processes.

    People care for the future of the world should read this book. The author made a GREAT point: We need New CEO to quickly change our culture. New CEO = the Current Criteria of Engineering Optimization (CEO) X Sustainability, NOT blah blah blah plus sustainability. This is a huge difference.

    Anyone who enjoys in-depth thinking would enjoy this book. This book naturally lead us to interdisciplinary thinking. Furthermore, it provided many powerful new concepts, such as General Energy Field, General Logic Functional Materials
    General Intelligence, MPIE dynamic models, etc. Interestingly, the author proposed a way to test an important hypothesis at the end of the book: All configurations have general intelligenc, and Intelligence is a special kind of energy field.

    If you want to be in the forefront of engineering, you should read this book. Worldwide scholars contributed to the book, the editor is a very well respected expert. This is the first book on Energy Field Manufacturing, a new direction in modern engineering methodology. Many people know mass production, lean manufacturing, SixSigma, TRIZ, etc. This book will for sure to be a new milestone in engineering.

    Many smart people are reading it. Many universities had invited the author to give talks on Intelligent EFM, including Columbia University, Kensas State University, RPI, USTC, Beijing Normal University, Tsinghua University, Zhengzhou University, etc. Every time the audience were thrilled.

    It is a pity to see the price of this book had dropped to such a low on Amazon! I guess the author did not do a good job of marketing, or the world had lost interest in engineering.

    I know quite many professors will use this book as their advanced manufacturing class textbooks and reference books, especially for those who contributed to the book chapters. Ha, this include quite few professors in big engineering schools. Dr. Zhang is a GE Global Research Engineer busy with many things, so maybe he can be pardoned for being lazy in marketing.

    Solute to his effort on this great book anyway.

    At such low price, you'd better hurry to get it. Be honest, $140 is pricy. A decent price for such a new classic should be no less than $60. Time will tell.

  • Meet the author of the book in several ASME conferences and was impressed by his expertise in multiple engineering research frontiers including micro and nano fabrication, high strain rate forming, and laser shock peening that have been (later on found out) covered in this book. I have read through this book carefully, and I do think it is one of the best books out there that takes a highly interdisciplinary approach to illustrate processes of mixing intelligence with various energies to transform different materials into desired shapes/configurations. And it is especially helpful if you are an expert, researcher or student that would like to understand both conventional and non-conventional manufacturing processes that are being utilized in today's manufacturing.

  • This is a great book covering nearly all the advanced techniques in energy field manufacturing.

    Many interdisciplinary processes and applications include magnetic-assisted finishing, laser-assisted processing, waterjet machining, ultrasonic machining, micro-sensor fabrication, nano/micro/meso metrology, intelligent control and etc. are introduced by emphasizing their roles from energy perspectives.

    All the contributors of this book are famous professors in the field. It's very worthy reading and having a copy if you wish to work in energy field & advanced manufacturing in future.
