Radio Shack sold a book by Forest M Mims III called "Engineers Mini Notebook - 555 Timer IC" which I can recommend. All the circuits really work, and they illustrate not just using single 555's but chaining them together in useful ways (. one 555 as a slow ramp generator driving an audio-range VCO - and you've got a whoop whoop siren. The ISBNs were: 0-672-21416-4 for the first E. and 0-672-21932-8 for the 2nd Ed. Copies can be found at various prices above/below the original at used book shops. Book by Jung, Walter G.
  • A classic book for a classic device. Although outdated and superseded by the Internet. I just wanted to buy it to replace the original one (lost in one of my many home moves).

  • this guy is the standard of reference for 555

  • I worked with Walt Jung and he is the best I know. His Op Amp book is also a must have.

    Thanks Walt!

  • As advertised. A classic and essential reference for hobbyists and the small lab.

  • Good Book! Ordered and delivered without a hitch. Downside of some of the circuits are that some of the components are obsolete.

  • The publication date is 1977. This is like reading a history of timer chips. The original 555 is still available, but many of the later chips mentioned in the book are long gone.

  • It's good book for beganers

  • It has hundreds of functions that can be accomplished with a 555 timer. A great reference. The book is so old the binding is falling apart, but it's worth the price.
