An authoritative historical overview of the art and science of navigation, from Ptolemy's first world atlas to modern G.P.S. technology.
  • This is a very simplistic book with no real depth of information on how navigation evolved through the ages. As far as my needs were concerned, it was a waste of money

  • This book contains a very interesting and easy to understand description of current and historical methods of navigation.

  • Good information and very interesting.

  • I enjoyed the book, read it in around 4 hours. I find it a little light on details. Its not a technical book for sure, but interesting reading. I had hoped to have more technical reading in this book.
I can recommend it to any reader who has interest in navigation but for the more technical minded its just pleasant reading material.

  • This is a great book if you want to learn about how mankind has learned to navigate in the world, from the Polynesians until today. The author is apparently a sailor at heart, so be aware that the book has a slight bias towards navigation on sea. However, most of it is very general. A great reference.

  • Having been a Deck Officer in the Dutch merchant marine for many years, I'm giving presentations on navigating in the old days (before 1900) and had hoped to find more detailed in formation on this subject in the book "navigation through the Ages", but did n't.
Furthermore the book was dilivered more than a month after ordering date, while the mony for the book was withdrawn from my account after 2 weeks.

  • Gave me the basic information I was seeking

  • it is a great reference book on one of the most impressive arts in the world.
