David Fisher, who wrote the original TV story The Stones of Blood, has now converted it not to a print novel but . a very good adaptation of a fair doctor who adventure. it drags a bit in the last third but so does the TV source. Susan Engel reads the story excellently, though.

David Fisher, who wrote the original TV story The Stones of Blood, has now converted it not to a print novel but to audiobook format, read with great gusto by Susan Engel (who played the villain of the piece on screen) with John Leeson doing K9's lines. I had been looking forward to this with hopeful enthusiasm, as Fisher's novelisations of his other two stories are among the best of the Target range. I am very glad to say that I was not disappointed.

David Fisher has coauthored several New York Times bestsellers, including Gracie and All My Best Friends with George Burns and The Umpire Strikes Back with Ron Luciano. The audio version of Gracie won a Grammy Award in 1990. He has written on a wide variety of subjects, and his work has appeared on bestseller lists around the world.

Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC since 1963. Hundreds of novelisations of the series have been published by various publishers, the majority based on the original 1963–1989 run of the series. The first three Doctor Who serials to be novelised were the 1960s serials The Daleks, The Web Planet, and The Crusade (published as Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks, Doctor Who and the Zarbi, and Doctor Who and the Crusaders).

As with all of Terrance Dicks' Doctor Who novelisations the original "Doctor Who and the Stones of Blood" is an enjoyable book, but sticks closely to the scripts and is at times formulaic (Dicks wrote over 60 novelisations so this is understandable). For this release the story's original writer David Fisher has re-novelised the 1978 serial and with it added much more detail, particularly into the history of the stone circle which features prominently throughout
