  • David and Matthew Eastwood weave a tale of intrigue, danger and steaming sex in the Bolivian Oriente. The novel is a true follower of the Action and Suspense genres, but it cannot really be that easily identified. Oriente is peppered with elements of Romance and Mystery as well, along with a subtle dash of Science and Politics. The combinations as such lead to a smooth, well developed plot, which doesn't try to force any of the elements down the reader's throat.

The characters are realistic in their motives that do well in staying far away from the cookie-cutter stereotypes. The Eastwoods are acceptionally skilled in creating a character that you can love, loathe and express pity for, allowing the reader to witness their own reflection, perhaps, if they were caught in a similar situation.

Not only do the writers appear to have a talent in presenting their recipe of a plot, but their dialog comes off as a quick and witty series of bantering, that is not only an art in itself, but a pleasure to read nontheless.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has a stronger taste for a suspenseful action read, particularly those who are faithful followers of writers such as Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. The Eastwoods will present to you a good, solid novel, one which you may find yourself revisiting several times. Even then, it could leave you anticipating what the Father/Son team may come up with next.

  • Not your everyday view on South American affaires. Masterly described, the world of scientific research and the intricate characters are portrayed rigorously yet in a language the average reader can easily feel comfortable with. Those Eastwoods' must have documented this novel quite well because there are many issues that one can relate to, particularly if your line of work is University research. The various gripping stories are coming together towards a brilliant and unexpected ending that provides, in our view, the highlight that the likes of Brown do not deliver.

    who's that General Malvarez guy anyway...what a man...what a life !
