The war between the land and the sea. Ancient sea-magic turns a dolphin into a human, an evil spell changes a teenage boy into a dragonfly and a once good and loving jellyfish queen becomes an evil fairy godmother. This modern day adventure forces an unsuspecting family to become the weapon to fight the war which rages on the land and under the sea.
  • Don't bother.

  • I admit I came into this book with low expectations after reading the reviews here and getting a load of the strange premise and characters, but it does come off as a vanity publishing affair (with all the grammatical and punctuation errors that implies) rather than a professional work. Though the writer does have some talent for action sequences and energetic pacing, he also restates characters' emotions, thoughts, and situations too often; a good editor could have done so much with this. There are plot elements/character types handled better in earlier works, as Ivy's review pointed out (the "Butterfly Wonderland", for instance, is a retread of Pinocchio's Pleasure Island, and more recent works like "The Thief of Always" and "Coraline" have used similar settings as well). There are a few plot holes left unfilled (why aren't more humans aware of the Decayed Sea, if it's so dangerous and widespread?), logical questions unanswered (how did the villainness establish the fully-functioning "Wonderland" in less than three months?), unresolved plot points, and characters (such as the starfish, Muck Munchers, and Madame Lifee) that add so little to the story that their actions and dialogue could have easily been given to other characters or even dropped. There are also a few cringeworthy ethnic stereotypes/accents (the redneck kidnappers from Louisiana are the worst offenders). And Lundon is a weak lead character -- though written as 13 years old, she acts at least 5 years younger than that (Ivy noted her not comprehending kidnapping, but that's just the tip of the iceberg), and most of the time needs help from the male characters to escape sticky situations (when she and Waxer are taken captive, he tirelessly works to escape from a dungeon while she mopes about a nice mansion). Her involvement in the climax is effectively summoning a deus ex machina to start setting things to rights, and she receives virtually no character development.

A 1-star rating would be too harsh; the book is readable and even a bit fun for all its flaws. But I don't see this or the promised movie adaptation proving profitable enough to benefit schools, much less launch a five-book "franchise". The movie might turn out to be a so-bad-it's-good lark though, in the tradition of "The Nutcracker in 3D" perhaps (starting with the fact that Paris Jackson is already way too old for the part of Lundon in terms of the character's behavior).

  • This book was very enjoyable. I can't wait for the movie to be released. I would recommend this to anyone.

  • This book was really good and I amsure that it will make an excellent movie. I originally got it for my daughter, but then I decided to read it as well. I think it has a great message and hopefully will make people more aware of a serious problem we have. I also likle how 50% of the proceeds goes towards schools.

  • This was for my niece to read and I read it also. Very easy to read and entertaining. Can't wait for the movie

  • his is a classic in the making. I cant wait to see the movie. Additionally, I have been reading some other comments left by people who are obviously trying to slander the relationship between the author, paris jackson and the upcoming movie. To say that some of these other reviews weren't meant to slander or hurt those involved would be a teneous argument at best. As somebody who knows the Jackson's personally, I am hopeful that those who are about to buy this book use sensible reasoning when contemplating whether or not to buy the book based on the slanderous reviews made by a few people. The author, Paris and the to be movie has already received rave reviews from The Today Show, The Ellen Show, AC Green, E!, Good Morning America and many more outlets who actually have the credibility. Additionally, I find it alarming that people are leaving remarks concerning the movie and other things that DO NOT have anything to do with the book. For one, there is a LEGAL contractual relationship existing between Paris and the author (anybody who knows how to properly conduct due diligence would know this to be true). I, for one, know first hand it exists. Two, for the people claiming that the movie is being funded by the "sales of the books" obviously have no idea as to what they are talking about and furthermore obviously have no idea what it takes to fund anything let alone a movie. Third, the team has in fact created a technological platform in order to give money back to over 150,000 schools around the country. Lastly, for the those who have nothing better to do than write slanderous reviews on both the book and the movie based on their own assumptions--- you really need to stop assuming because you obviously have NO idea as to what your talking about. Just leave the girl alone, your not helping her. God Bless!"

  • When I heard that their was a book that was gonna give 50% of its proceeds to US schools I thought "great idea!" then I heard Paris Jackson would star in the movie and I immediately bought this book. My children and I are still currently reading but the story should hit close to everyone! We need to take care of our planet! I recommend everyone to buy this book whether your a child or adult, you'll find it entertaining!

  • The book is great; I could read it over and over but I alreadly know the story by heart so I don't have to read it again, I love the story and I can't wait for the movie to come out... To see Paris Jackson in the movie; starring Lundon...:)
