The Olive Sisters book. This is the second Amanda Hampson book I have read this week. A very moving story of family and how relationships between family members can become so complicated and strained through deception and how this can follow through the generations. I very much recommend this story.

Hey Rube gives us a lasting look at the gonzo journalist in his most organic form―unbridled, astute, and irreverent. They will not be disappointed. His notorious Screwjack is as salacious, unsettling, and brutally lyrical as it has been rumored to be since the private printing in 1991 of three hundred fine collectors' copies and twenty-six leather-bound presentation copies.

  • I chose to rate this book so highly because of the pictures her words painted in my mind. I love her loving treatment of family and community. She made me feel the sharp contrasts of her city life and her country life, and how she came to appreciate the quality and integrity of the life of her ancestors.I think the message that she imparted to me was that knowledge of her family history completed her life and made her happy and comfortable with who she was. I also enjoyed reading about Australian life and scenery. The whole time I was reading the book, I kept in mind that a movie would be made and I hoped it would convey this strong family's heritage.

  • This is a marvelous read that is genuinely romantic, funny and touching. It's the story of a hyper-successful marketing executive who is forced to start her life over when her business unexpectedly crashes and burns. She flees Sydney to take refuge on her one remaining 'asset': a run-down olive farm she inherited from her estranged father. The never-married mother of one discovers that everything she knew about her history and heritage was a lie. With great characters and a slowly unfolding mystery - as well as two parallel sagas set fifty years apart - it'll keep you briskly turning the pages. Can't wait for the inevitable movie!

  • A touching book which is easy to read and stirs up lots of emotion. You may not recall aloof the details but you will recall how it made you feel.
Get comfy on the couch because you'll want to read it in one sitting.

  • I absolutely loved this book. I read it very, very late into the night because I couldn't put it down! Amanda is a brilliant writer. I loved her descriptions and insights. This book is so well written from beginning to end. The characters are complex and interesting and I could literally picture the settings. A great story, that would translate brilliantly into film. I've just read her new book "Two For The Road" which introduces a whole new scenario and characters which I can also highly recommend for the same reasons.
