They were as different as three cousins could be. Slender Lesley was always trying to please others; pretty Bret's life was spinning out of control; sweet Anne always fell for Mr. Wrong. Yet they had one thing in common. The grandmother they'd adored had left her summer beach cottage to them - jointly. They'd be spending time there - together and alone - and trying to figure out why she'd entrusted it to them.
  • When I first read the synoposis of this story, I didn't think I would enjoy it very much. But did I ever get the surprise of my life.

The story begins just after the death of the grandmother. It's about three cousins who inherit the grandmother's cottage on the lake where the three spent all their summers in their youth. Each cousin has issues that have kept them from true love or from really living. None of them have followed in their faith.

If I had to pick my favorite, I don't think I could do it. They each uniquely had thier own set of problems that wasn't easily resolved. The first half of the book focuses on their problems and how they discover their need for a fix. They each find love at different times. Ann meets her true love but doesn't think he's it. Instead, she starts dating a teacher that has a lot of charm and says all the right things. She soon learns what love is all about. Leslie always thought she was ugly and never seen love coming until God continued to put her love in her path. Finally, he opened her eyes to it. And Bret...probably the most tramautized of them all. She was an alcoholic, and it took a stranger on the beach to convince her of this. But only she could admit to her problem.

Though I thought Bret's proposal came a bit too abrupt (there really wasn't that much time for the two to get to know each other), it didn't take away from the story. The religion was down-played and seemed to be more of a Catholic belief. But those are the only issues I saw with this.

I found myself crying as I read because of the sweetness of the whole thing. Then when one final blow comes to the cousins near the end, their loves helped them through it, promising to make it all better.

Don't hesiate in reading this story. It is a book with three sweet love stories intertwined together.

  • Three cousins inherit a beachfront cottage from their loving grandmother and all three must come to a decision as to what to do with it. Lesley is an anorexic (the poor little rich girl of the story); Bret is an alcoholic (the bad girl of the story) and Anne is a teacher who falls for married men (the stupid girl of the story). All three develop romances during the course of the story, and everything is resolved nicely. Bret's story is by far the most interesting and she is probably the best developed character.
