  • Not your typical Christmas story because there's nothing cheesy in these pages. There's a great deal of meaning, however, how our perspectives will change with understanding. Read with an artist's eye or have a reference book at hand for the many allusions to the great pieces and one, very small, obscure piece that becomes the heart of this story.

  • I realize Maugham is not one of the "great" novelists, but I still like to read his work from time to time. It's an interesting piece, but of a period. Like most of Maugham's work, well constructed and executed. If you're new to Maugham, I would suggest you try some of his short stories first. If you like those, then give this one a try.

  • Sad story having nothing to do with Christmas except the kindness a young man for a young girl during his Christmas Holiday in Paris. perfect kindle edition.

  • A rare Maugham story specifically interesting because of the movie made from it which avoids the kinkier parts but they are there in subtle ways in the actors' performances, especially Deanna Durbin's. Gene Kelly plays the husband and Gale Sondergaard is the mother in law and the locale is San Francisco as well as Paris.

  • And I keep finding more Maugham, he was so prolific. This was early Maugham, very sweet, It all has to be read and reread, though the travel books and short stories are his forte.

  • A good read for us Maugham fans, who aspire to read all of his works. He is such a master that I humiliated by his genius. Only if I could write a hundredth as well as he.

  • Excellent

  • This is a wonderful novel, somewhat dated, but not much.
