Lydia's aunt Margaret always had a way of meddling in the lives of her three nieces, so it was not shocking to hear that Aunt Margaret had appointed Lydia to be the new schoolteacher in the town of Surprise.

Lydia is horrified to think that she'll be in charge of a room full of screaming children. She has no experience and cannot believe that this tragic fate has befallen her.

To make matters worse, Alexander Judson, the head of the school board and the local carpenter who built the school, has serious doubts about her abilities.

Determined to prove him wrong she throws herself into the position. No one is more surprised by her natural abilities than Lydia herself, but Alexander is still not convinced. His two children are students at the school and bring home glowing reports of Lydia. Clearly the two young children adore her.

Ever since Alexander's wife died tragically in a freak accident, he was determined that no woman would ever hold his heart, or the heart of his children. Lydia is convinced that Alexander is a wretched man and worries for the well-being of his children. It will take an accident, a little interference from the townspeople, and some forgiveness on both their parts for the two to realize that they are passionate about each other.

  • An easy book to read that takes your mind off of everyday life. A little uncomplicated escape to make you smile.

  • This is a nice comfortable reading story that doesn't have those racy sex scenes that so many stories do these days. I thought it was interesting descriibing what the small towns were like back in the old days where people had to not only build a school but also had to build the desks that were needed. The individuals in the story seemed to be typical of the first settlers, the woman that really ran the town behind the scenes, the sheriff, the busybody and of course the children. This is a story that you are not embarrassed by having your children or your Grandmother read.

  • This story is about an aunt who loves to manipulate the folks around her, so she can have the town she and her late husband wanted before he died. Aunt Margaret has sent for her 3 nieces and she wants to help them with there life's and wont let anything or anyone stop her until she gets what she wants for her and her nieces.
This in set in the 1800's and is a nice read if you are not looking for the sultry sex in most romances.

  • i found few surprises in this book. if you like a light-hearted romance where everyone lives happily ever after, this might be for you. i prefer heartier fare.

  • Lydia was the one of three privileged sisters who yearned for adventure. she decided to
visit her aunt who lived in a quaint little town called "surprise". The surprise came to her when she met and fell in love with the town's most handsome widowed bachelor who had two children in her class after she accepted a job at the new school.

  • This was a great easy read. The writing is simplistic but the story line is cute. It's predictable, but it's still fun to cheer for the good guys and have that happily ever after!

  • THIS IS A MARVELOUS PERIOD SAGA OF THREE SISTERS, THIS BOOK HIGHLIGHTING LYDIA. LYDIA GOES FROM BEING THE BELLE OF THE BALL TO BEING A SCHOOL TEACHER PHENOMINAL ... THEN MARRYING AND BECOMING A STEP MOTHER.
