Di Morrissey is one of the most successful authors Australia has ever produced. She trained as a journalist, working in the media around the world. Her fascination with different countries; their landscape, their cultural, political and environmental issues, forms the inspiration for her novels

Why do I always get the feeling when reading a Di Morrissey book that she is trying to teach me something and cloaking it, rather badly, in fiction.

The Bay is a beautiful and peaceful town on the Australian east coast; a melting pot of city escapees, alternative lifestylers, feral dropouts, lost souls, backpackers, and men and women in search of love and a new sense of identity. When Sydney corporate wife Holly Jamieson turns forty-five she shocks her husband by buying an old house in The Bay with plans to transform it into a charming B&B. What began as a gesture of independence changes her life. Holly soon discovers that beneath its tranquil surface, the Bay is a whirlpool of passions and conflict. It was once a whaling town, then a sleepy resort that became trendy, and now developers are moving in for the kill. Holly, her family, and an unusual band of new friends are in the battle lines and not always on the same side.
  • Over the years I have loved to read Di Morrissey's tales after first seeing her interviewed on Australia TV while in country. This book was not a disappointment it took place north of Sydney on the Gold coast with a wonderful plot! She developes her characters well and sets the tone for wonderful tales. Being a lover of Australian novels along with the country itself I always look for her work whenever I am in the mood for a great tale. This book I received was actually autographed by Di on the inside page - I shall treasure it!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great storyline, although I did have a bit of a problem keeping up with all the different characters. The main character, Holly, decides on a seachange going from being an executive wife and mum, who was at the beck and call of the husband and adult children, in an exclusive suburb to buying and renovating a dilapidated house in The Bay. It follows the communities fight against developers and sees Holly grow into an independent person and managing her own life. Would certainly recommend this book.

  • great story on edge right till the end

  • good read

  • wonderful

  • The Bay… I want to move there now. Loved sharing the tears, triumphs, worries and woes of al these characters. Especially loved 'Mac' I see so much of the person I would really like to be in her shoes.

  • A good picture of small town Australia with typical characters and a topical story line. Can relate to the people and the story.

  • I found this a lot harder to read than some of her other books. Some how the story didn't grip me nor were the characters very interesting.
