I found after reading books like Deviations: Submission and The Complete Dr. Fell Volume I: Lost that I really enjoy a gay romance with BDSM

I found after reading books like Deviations: Submission and The Complete Dr. Fell Volume I: Lost that I really enjoy a gay romance with BDSM. However, these can vary greatly in terms of how real the BDSM is. Many romances throw in some spanking and bondage to spice up the mostly vanilla sex (which is fine), but they aren't BDSM.

When Ethan and Cam met the year before at an underground BDSM club, their connection was intense and immediate. Ethan and Cam are in love. There's just one small problem-they're both submissives.

It was a look he had seen many times before, and one that thrilled him to his core.

In the two weeks they’d worked together, Dylan Hart had been all business, but something was different tonight. Though the two older men seemed unaware, there was a definite sexual undercurrent going on between Dylan and Zoë since they’d arrived at the trendy downtown bar earlier that evening. It was a look he had seen many times before, and one that thrilled him to his core. If he leaned forward just a little, he would be close enough to kiss her. A jarring, chirping sound came from the Zoë’s suit jacket, which hung on the back of her barstool.

When she’d reached two hundred forty-six, she became aware of the low rumble of his snoring.

She continued to lie still as stone for another one hundred seconds before daring to turn from her side to her stomach. She cradled her head in her arms and closed her eyes.

She wondered from time to time why Greg continued to let her stay in the guest . It was the books-her secret and coveted novels. They were messing with her head. In knocking her down a peg or two, as he liked to say. Stockton liked to verbally torment and humiliate Ashley.

She wondered from time to time why Greg continued to let her stay in the guest bedroom and never tried to sneak into her bed or let her know he expected that sort of payment for his kindness. When the reason came out why he hadn’t touched her, the stunning cruelty of his remarks left her literally breathless. And yet, she wouldn’t have given them up, not for anything.

When Ethan and Cam met the year before at an underground BDSM club, their connection was intense and immediate. There's just one small problem-they're both subs. To work around this, they agree to find their own Doms for play, offering their submission and their bodies to would-be Masters, but leaving their hearts at home. The setup works fine, until the day Ethan meets a hot Dom named Maestro. For the first time, Ethan finds himself keeping secrets from his lover. And Maestro has secrets of his own. Unrequited passion and sizzling hot D/s lead to the three agreeing to a play scene that ends up ensnaring them all in something more powerful than any of them had dreamed of. Can two subs submit to a man who would claim not only their bodies, but their hearts and minds? Or will the intensity of a D/s ménage break their world apart?

    overall impression:

What can I say I really and truly wanted to love this story. The plot seemed so good, and I am always up for a menage story. Unfortunately  I was left feeling confused regarding the dynamic of their threesome. It almost seems like there are two separate relationships instead of one cohesive one.

Honestly I was dissapointed in this book. It was long which was great but I think the author should have used that length to develop the relationships alittle further.

Maestro is the newcommer to the scene and his interactions with each man differ vastly and you don't seem to get a true sense of where he fits into the threesome other then their domminant.  Besides how can he truly be happy with th two when from the start sinve high school he was in love with Ethan?

My personal rating for this book is 2*

  • I found after reading books like Deviations: Submission and The Complete Dr. Fell Volume I: Lost that I really enjoy a gay romance with BDSM. However, these can vary greatly in terms of how real the BDSM is. Many romances throw in some spanking and bondage to spice up the mostly vanilla sex (which is fine), but they aren't BDSM. This novel is, though it is not real hard core. There are whips, restraints, clamps, orgasm denial, etc. There are scenes that could make a reader uncomfortable.

I'm not usually a fan of threesomes, but the occasional story does stand out. This is one of them, mainly because of the unusual scenario. Ethan and Cam are committed lovers, but they have a problem because both are submissives; unable to top one another. Until now, they have been going to clubs to meet this need, but with rules for no sex or intimacy. The problem is, submission in itself can be very intimate with the right Dom. When Ethan meets a real Dom, he feels guilty like he's cheating on Cam. Ethan realizes that no matter how much he loves Cam, he has needs that aren't being met. But, these two are in love and they talk about it and decide that Cam needs to meet Andrew. Their lives are changed by the encounter as Cam realizes his needs are also not being met. I have to admit that when Andrew entered the relationship, the story got a little uncomfortable. First, Andrew is love with Ethan. Ethan and Cam go to Andrew (at first) simply to be topped. But, he wants more than that; he wants a relationship, with both of them. And, they are struggling with the concern that their attraction to Andrew could break them up.

Ironically, there is not as much intercourse in this book as in most erotic gay romances. There is sex between Cam and Ethan at the beginning, but it's the dominance scenes that are highly erotic. Cam and Ethan are different in their submissive natures, and seeing how Andrew handles each is quite good. Overall, I thought this was an excellent BDSM romance. It is a little weaker than the Deviations series, mainly because it didn't address the everyday details, nitty gritty (like contracts) that those books did. However, the ending leaves room for a sequel wherein the author could go more in depth. I really hope there will be one as I would love to spend more time with Ethan, Cam and Andrew now that they have committed themselves. As it is, I have already started Thompson's other BDSM romance, Switch. Highly recommended.

I liked this book. The premise seemed genuine as did the characters and their journey. While compressed as a time frame as romance novels have to be, the realistic feel of the journey was not compromised; it's presentation pretty much perfectly executed.

I liked Cam and Ethan as individuals and as a couple, and their honesty as a pair was pleasing to see. I loved Andrew as the Dom...or the idea of him as the Dom. I loved the concept of what he was as a child compared to what he became as a fully realized adult. I loved that he was honest about what he initially wanted but also honest enough with himself to see what he ultimately wanted. Andrew as a Dom, was sensitive to the individual past experiences and current needs of both Cam and Ethan. There was no drama between the three that was not openly and quickly dealt with. Angst free zone here, and much appreciated.

A 4 star rating instead of a 5 was purely from the lack of emotional connection I, as the reader, felt with Andrew. If I thought he was written as such a strong Dom and I liked the unfolding of the tale as it relates to him, why am I not figuratively dropping to my own knees as I read him? I can't put my finger on it and yet, there it is...

My interpretation is admittedly my own, and I do understand the 5's that have been awarded. In fact, I believe most readers will, and indeed should, come to a 5 star conclusion.
