Later that night in her room, another terrifying experience further reinforces the sense that something is very wrong. Just as that novel brought us a brilliant Hell that only he could imagine, Doomed is a dark and twisted apocalyptic vision from this provocative storyteller. The Woman in Black: A classic ghost story: the chilling tale of a menacing specter haunting a small English town.

Single mother and owner of a coffee bar called Java the Hut, Jillene McDermott finds her life turned upside down by a personal ad run by her matchmaking daughters that goes awry, forcing her to be rescued by local crime writer Vince Tremonti, who unexpectedly brings passion and love into her life. Original.
  • Jillene McDermott is a widow with two young daughters. Since the death of her husband, she's been struggling. Her coffee shop is tottering on ruin and she has no love life. She feels defeated. Local celebrity, Vince Tremonti, is back in town to visit his father and to come to terms with issues on his new book. He meets Jillene and likes what he sees. They are drawn to each other. Does romance stand a chance when they are both dealing with serious problems? I liked Jillene. She's a hard worker who loves her girls. Loneliness has been her companion since she became a widow. Vince needs to sort out how to deal with a sadistic killer who wants to be famous by having him write a book detailing his crimes. This is tearing him apart. He hopes that talking with his father and the serenity of Blue Heron Beach will help him find a solution. This book with its interwoven story lines captured my interest. I enjoyed the setting. This small town is filled with interesting people. These locals are like an extended family. They care about you. I particularly enjoyed the romance between Vince's father, Al, and Ianella. It made me smile. It goes to show that love and romance are not just for the young. Stef Ann Holm did a great job. I love the characters, the setting and the drama. This romance touched me. This book is a keeper.

  • I am a fan of Stef Ann Holm's work, and this is one of the nicest books she has written.

Jillene is a widow raising 2 girls and having terrible financial problems. Her husband died quite suddenly and the business he had owned, a coffee shop, is still struggling to become successful.

Vince is a famous true crime writer. He has come back to his home town to see his father and try to figure out a way to deal with the latest serial killer's story. The killer has been found guilty but his story is creating a terrible sense of dread and disgust in Vince.

This book has a plot which is very straight forward. The development of character is well done. The secondary characters are all people who are interesting and a vital part of the story.

The reader gets a sense of small town life, and the close relationships which develop when you live in a small town.

The book is a romance that is very realistic in the sense that there are ambivalent feelings, fear and questions. All of which are a part of people who are falling in love. Both the hero and heroine bring their history to the table, and at times it is disheartening, rather like real life.

There is a gentle humor. The 2 little girls are a vital part of the story and at times they behave like children.

I recommend the book to anyone who would like to read a romance between 2 normal human beings.

  • I truly loved this book. O lived the characters and the way that they slowly build up to their relationship deepening. It wasn't just flash harm sex love happily ever after. It was a slow sweet build up to love. I also loved the secondary love story that proved that even older people can feel passion and love.

  • This was an outstanding book. I found myself so absorbed in the story I hated to put my iPad down. I had never read anything by this author before but I will read her works again. This story hooked me from the first page I read and kept me reading for hours, I could not stop reading this story. I cried in parts and laughed at other parts. If you read this book you will not be sorry that you did. I love this author.

  • A good read that both men and women will enjoy. The descriptions of this Pacific Northwest Island, the people who live there, as well as the hometown Guy who made it big, will take you there in a heartbeat. I gave it 4 Stars not that there is anything wrong, as it is something you won't stop until it's done, but it lacks that nock it out of the park intensity that most people want these days. However if you want authenticity this rates a 5 Star in my book. Anyway not to be missed that's for sure.

  • Girls Night is book one of the Single Moms, Second Chances series, and is a wonderfully sweet & sexy story. The love story between Jillene and Vince was subtle and satisfying, and the secondary story between Al and Ianella was beyond sweet. I really, really liked this book, and will definitely read the others in the series. I received this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review.

  • I actually really enjoyed the 1st 1/2 of this story.
Liked the slow build up to the romance, hated the hot/cold story telling though.
Liked the dad's little love story, it was sweet. His actually had more going for it than his sons. If it wasnt so on/off, happening/not happening it would have been more believable.
By about 3/4 of the way through I started skimming until I decided to just go to the end and founbd out exactly the ending I thought would happen.
It's suh a shame because like I said, the 1st 1/2 I found great & didnt want to put my kindle down.

  • It was okay....I'm not into your basic predictable love story where the main objective is for a woman to get married again. Especially so quickly after meeting someone. If you are some one who is in to romance like that then you may enjoy this book. I also felt it was a little old-fashioned in some of the dialect which made the 38 year old main character come across as older. I like more modern and up to date novels though. Many women I know aren't waiting for some man to come and rescue them anymore.
