The book quality and printing is very good, and the translation seems very close (I am not a native French speaker myself). This book is adorable and I love that I can use it to teach my son French. The story is absolutely lovely, and one of the few to feature a dad rather than a mom. My husband loved to read this (in English) to my daughters when they were little, so it was a sweet gift for one (now a teenager) who is learning French. The paperback could get torn up easily.

The Book of the City of Ladies, Christine de Pizan (1405)

The Book of the City of Ladies, Christine de Pizan (1405). Written by the prolific medievalist Christine de Pizan, The Book of the City of Ladies is an extraordinary work, both for its content and for the fact that it was written by a woman during the Middle Ages. While an entirely unique work, the series reflects certain aspects of the French Renaissance’s experimental nature, both in form and content: the novels are characterized by their satirical, bawdy humor and unapologetic instances of crudity and violence – leading to great controversy when they were first published.
