He has been named alongside great American writers like Hemingway and Larry McMurtry, as well as filmmakers John Ford and Sam Peckinpah, for his singular voice and ability to weave timely social and political themes into sweeping page turners that pierce straight into America’s soul.

Another very good book by Boston Teran. I don't know if Teran is a male or female, or a group of authors. The first book I read, God Is a Bullet, I thought definitely a man. Now this book, similar style, high quality writing, engaging, BUT with all the sensitivity and understanding of female issues. Must have much female influence. The World Eve Left Us is slightly outside the genre of crime fiction, but a good dose of murder, kidnapping, drug deals gone bad, and male bullies, for the lovers of Another very good book by Boston Teran

Great book, I can see why some are guessing Boston Teran may be a woman. It is not only about the images Eve creates/leaves us of her world, the Bronx, which by their universality encompass our world, the world.

Great book, I can see why some are guessing Boston Teran may be a woman. All of Boston's books I've read are good, and very different. The characters can be gritty, tender, and everything in between. But also the concept this book is told from is a decidedly feminist point of view. That the central characters of this book - the three women - not only influence the world, but through their struggles, actually create it.

It is not only about the images Eve creates/leaves us of her world, the Bronx, which by their universality encompass our world, the world. My vote - Boston Teran is a woman. Read this book and judge for yourself.

It is the oldest marathon in the world, having started in 1897.

Historically, it has been a very important site for the US and, over the years, it has become famous for the prestigious universities such as Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) located in the Boston area. One such event was the Boston Tea Party, when an entire shipment of tea sent by the British was destroyed in defiance to the British rule. In the 1820s, many Irish immigrants came to Boston, which changed the city's ethnic composition. It is the oldest marathon in the world, having started in 1897.

The story of a world as seen through the camera eye of a deaf girl. The world is the Bronx of the 1950s to the 1970s. It is a story of beauty, of love, and of violence.

In the Italian community in the Bronx of 1950, Clarissa-Catholic and uneducated-dies at the hands of her husband, a small-time drug dealer. Eve, his deaf and dumb daughter, is threatened with the same fate. A German refugee, Fran, taught the child how to communicate through sign and photography.

The books written by author Teran have been published all over the world. They have also been nominated or have won some of the greatest awards such as the ‘Dublin’s International Impact Award’ for the Best Novel category. Teran’s books have also been awarded with prestigious awards in Japan and England. Author Teran was born and brought up in South Bronx. Currently, he resides in South Carolina and Mexico.

This woman, marked by the unspeakable violence of Nazi barbarism, protects Eve, channels her rebellion, and encourages her to exploit her talent. But can she protect the girl against her violent criminal father? It is no accident that Eve flourishes as a woman and as an artist when the Vietnam War threatened to divide the country, where the music takes a radical turn, where violence is necessary in film: the reign of ambiguity and paradoxes began. Advocacy against the injustice that plagues the weak-women, the disabled, African Americans-it is also a cry of alarm about how the world keeps turning while evil thrives with impunity.
  • What makes books great is when they can give you the majesty of life in the smallest
of moments and the simplest of details. THE WORLD EVE LEFT US did this for me,
    page after page.

I saw the book in the LOVE and ROMANCE section of FREE Kindle, so I thought I'd
give it a try. It turned out to be so much more than I expected. It is, in fact, a serious work
of literature dealing with women, and the obstacles and wars they have to struggle through
to attain their place in the world, and find completeness.

I do not like to give away plot and character in these reviews and possibly spoil or alter
the read for others, so I'll just say this. I know the Bronx very well and the places, the ambiance,
are so rich and accurate it was like being transported back into one of those classic black
    and white photographs.

The book is incredibly dramatic, with a story that weaves and connects seamlessly over time.
It is meaningful and human and most of all - beautiful.

  • This book was handed to me by a friend and I hesitantly picked it up. It's not what I normally read. I'm glad I did. The dramatic story, the triangle of the three women, and the heart felt emotional rollercoaster made this book worthwhile. The women in the story are unforgettable. I don't know if Boston Teran is a woman or a man, but I know a good author when I see one.

  • Great book, I can see why some are guessing Boston Teran may be a woman. All of Boston's books I've read are good, and very different. The characters can be gritty, tender, and everything in between.

  • i have been a fan of boston since reading god is a bullet while in london in 2000. his follow up books have all been agood read. even my wifereads himm. It was,t easy to find him in our bookshops, but now with our kindle and amazon wecan cover all our favourite authors.

  • This book tells of the life of a young deaf girl. Very well written with insight into what her world is like. She does not have a happy life and has to overcome a lot of terrible things, but she triumphs in her own way in the end.

  • THE WORLD EVE LEFT US is a perfect title for this book. It is not only about the images Eve creates/leaves us of her world, the Bronx, which by their universality encompass our world, the world. But also the concept this book is told from is a decidedly feminist point of view. That the central characters of this book - the three women - not only influence the world, but through their struggles, actually create it.

The three central women in this book: Clarissa, Eve's mother, Italian-American, raised in an orphanage, abused, worked mercilessly, unloved - Frank Kuhl, the German immigrant and successful businesswoman who was sterilized by the Nazi's because she was pregnant by a deaf boy--and Eve, herself, form a feminist Trinity. God as mother, daughter and Holy Spirit. (Note a photograph Eve takes on a rooftop as a child.)

These women's survival and evolution plays out in drama after drama, battle after battle, struggle after struggle, as they confront the violence and criminality generated by men on every social and human level. Even Eve's deafness is used by her father to exploit her. The instamatic camera she is given as a child as a present is a lure, so he can use her as a front in his criminal activities. This section of the book is profound in how the act of exploiting someone can backfire in ways you never imagine as they rise up seeking their own identity.

There are numerous moving love stories in this book. Eve and her mother, Clarissa and Fran's sisterly relationship as they try to protect Eve from the violence around her, Eve and Fran as Fran becomes the de-facto mother after Clarissa's murder/disappearance, Eve and Charlie, the young war veteran who can also speak sign, and Eve's relationship with the world as seen through her camera.

I read where they say Boston Teran is not a man, but a group of writers working together. There is talk that in actuality, the author is a woman. My vote - Boston Teran is a woman. Read this book and judge for yourself. The story is told from so inside a feminist/female perspective I don't believe it could be otherwise.

    Great read.

  • Boston Teran is not a woman or a group of writers, as some have surmised.

I was married to him 30 years ago. His comment at the back of GOD IS A BULLET refers to the "late great Brutarian" who was our dog, a brindle American Staffordshire terrier of great wit and heart. For his own reasons he currently chooses anonymity and I respect that. He is and always was brilliant, the smartest man I've ever known. I miss him. God bless you D.

  • Sometimes an author doesn't want to include Catholic guilt, Nazi's, vengeance, and evil under her own name. It is tough enough having your family think you are writing a poetry book about Obama, when in fact it has nothing to do with politics.

Lovely, romancing your soul, kind of story that you better put two comforters over your body to feel safe and read.
