I have never read any novels by Norman Zollinger. I was very surprised there were previous novels written about Sheriff Corey Lane and idealist Jorge Martinez. I thought this story of love, honor, and war was beautifully written. I did not care about the battle scenes, but I cared deeply about the inner turmoil experienced by the people who were caught up in the pain created by idealism and reality.

This sweeping saga beginning in the days of Pancho Villa is finally back in print! Ignacio Ortiz-a Mexican orphan and a runaway searching for his past-lives through eras of intense change, including revolutionary upheavals, two world wars, and the beginning of the modern west during New Mexico's last territorial days. As these turbulent events serve as a backdrop to his life, Ignacio's own loyalties will be tested by the passions of his tempestuous employers The MacAndrews clan.
  • Having lived in central New Mexico for nearly 38 years, I can think of no excuse for having ignored this locally famous novel years ago. I chose to read it aloud -- about 10 pages at a time -- to a small group at our local nursing home, folks who became so engrossed in the story and the well-drawn characters that I didn't dare miss a session of our three-days-per-week "book club."

  • Nash ranks in there with characters like Monte Walsh and Gus MacCrae. The book had a profound effect on me, causing me to review my own past. I'd love to have a hardcover copy of the sequel, "Passage to Quivira." Tks.

  • love this author

  • Great story - and has a sequel. I have collected all 7 of Norman Zollinger's novels - read 3. Highly recommended.

  • I was happy to see this reprint of Norman's best novel, and one of my top five favorites. It has a style almost literary, but in all an amazing depth of character and profound story.

  • I chose this book because of my knowledge of the author, Norman Zollinger. I have enjoyed several books by this author. His work is sometimes historical fiction, well researched & written. In addition to the reading enjoyment, many things have been learned from reading Zollinger's works.
