Queen Elizabeth I is dying, and the King of England’s oldest and bitterest enemy, Scotland, is poised to take the throne. Once again, Martin Stephen has produced a tale of treachery, intrigue and passion which displays a staggeringly intimate knowledge of history. Lonely, her power fading, Elizabeth fears she is being poisoned.

It is 1588 and King Philip of Spain has assembled the greatest fleet and the most powerful army in the world. It is envisaged that the Armada, commanded by the brave and chivalric Duke of Medina Sidonia, will crush the English and bring an end to the reign of Queen Elizabeth. Caught up in the intrigues of Elizabeth's court as its inhabitants jostle for power and favour, he begins to realise that are many there who resent his youth, wealth and good looks. His position as a spy for Walsingham further endangers his life - and when he finds himself sailing on the Armada during his mission to spy on Sir Francis Drake, who is deemed suspicious of siding with the Spanish, he's not entirely certain where the real threat lies...
  • i fell in love with these books was able to read them all except one these books are so interesting as it is about the history of england in fiction format as far as henry gresham is concerned the whole collection that i read were enticinig and as the reader wanting more really enjoyed this collection

  • Another installment in the Gresham series this is an entertaining story of spying for England in the Elizabethan age. Gresham is surrounded again by enemies. As he battles foes both domestic and foreign Gresham conquers incredible odds, saves a beautiful girl and eventually the country.
With Mannion by his side he is unbeatable and the story makes for a good read. I must confess it took me awhile to get into it but once it grabbed me I was hooked.
