In the company's early years, it also published fantasy, science fiction, Westerns, and the Wildlife Treasury card series. Leisure Books offered a book sales club service. Whittling all historical fiction books into one manageable list is impossible, truly . Generally speaking, historical fiction is any story that is set in a time period in the past, but depending on who . The fact that we're talking about fiction also means that while historical authenticity is important, imagined elements of the story don't have to be based on fact.

Generally speaking, historical fiction is any story that is set in a time period in the past, but depending on who you ask, the criteria can be more - or less - stringent than that. The Walter Scott Prize, created in 2010 to recognize excellence in UK, Irish, and Commonwealth historical fiction, limits the definition to events that take place at least 60 years before publication, during a historical period with which the author has no personal experience.

Holding a rich claim during the Alaskan gold rush, Murrah Starr, a half-breed Sioux, must take on the head of the local miners' association who is determined to steal his claim by brute force. Reprint.
  • I'd give the story five stars, even though it almost follows a formula, but the little short story before takes off a star. The little short story is about 3 men wanting to be outlaws.

In the primary story, the principal character is a half-Indian named Starr Murrah. He has a productive gold claim in Alaska, and the bad guys want it. Starr suffers much, largely because of his Indian heritage, but makes his antagonists suffer too. The story includes a romance, and even though it's a standard western (or north-western), it's a good story. David Carlyle "Billy Thomas: Forever Fearless."

  • I was pleased to discover that this book is connected to his first western, No Survivors, which is my favorite Will Henry story.

  • Really enjoyed this book. I was pleasantly surprised when the "hero" of the story turned out to be a character from another story that I had really enjoyed.

  • Henry Wilson Allen wrote under both names, Will Henry, and Clay Fisher. And under either name he created some of the best of the best historical fiction ever written. Elmer Kelton said, "Will Henry combines the best talents of a natural storyteller with an inspired poet's glorious use of the English language." (from the back cover of the book) I agree. Will Henry's use of humor, his sympathetic and intelligent treatment of Indians, and his penchant for historical accuracy tend to make one of his books a pleasure to read on many levels.

  • I found Blind Canon a story that I could not put down.
We meet a halfbreed Sioux/whiteman that is cheated out of his mine by the bully of a Klondike mining camp.
When the whole camp is turned against him he can run, or he can fight.
This story is compelling and exciting .

  • Well written, full of complexity. Some happenings were beyond belief. Dark, but couldn't wait to see what happens next. Signed up for another by same author--really full of adventure, Not a true "western".. Setting in northern Alaska gold rush times--not the west as we expect it..
