The story of Moses is a familiar one: found in the bulrushes, Moses's upbringing in the court of Egypt gave him the influence and power to set the Israelites free.

It describes the life of Pharoh and the politics of the Egyptian Court just prior to the birth of Moses. It is most entertaining and quite believable. I enjoyed the book very much.

Joan Marshall was born 12 April 1907, at London, England, daughter of John Frederick Marshall and Blanche Emily Hughes. Grant shot to unexpected fame upon publication. It was followed by other historical fantasies, or as Grant called them, "Far Memory books," or "previous life autobiographies". Grant strove to disabuse herself and her readers of preconceptions, to eschew what she called 'group-think'. She attended the University of Notre Dame, where she received a .

Joan Marilyn Bourland (born Moses) was born on month day 1933, at birth place, Massachusetts, to Isadore Philip Moses and Ida Anna Moses (born Finstein). Published 1952 by Methuen in London Joan Grant enlarges the picture by depicting the events that lead up to the discovery of the baby Moses, convincingly portraying the man she believed was his father, Ramoses II, through the words of his reclusive half-brother Nebunefer. As a child growing up in Edwardian England, Joan Grant became aware of an astonishing ability to remember previous lifetimes, and as an author professed her seven novels to be based on her personal recollections of other incarnations, male and female, in ancient civilizations.

  • The author wrote the story as if she was an eye-witness, giving all the information through the eyes of Pharaoh Ramoses's older brother. From his own brother's point of view, several facts that historians will never know could be revelaed. It's astonishing to know, for instance, that Moses was Ramose's son with the only woman that he ever loved. Considering how little is for granted about those ancient times in Egypt, any information different form what is normally told in books is worth reading. Well, for those that don't believe in reincarnation, it's at least a good read.

  • I wanted to go to bed at midnight as I neared the end of "So Moses was Born," but I couldn't put it down. That had never happened to me before. At 1:30am, as I reached the peak of the drama, I got goosebumps! What a book!! For the next day, my mind was so full of this "story" that I couldn't start another book. I agree with the previous reviews. I think I have read the true story of Moses for the first time.

  • This fills in the details about Moses being found in the bulrushes as something that was well executed and planned as surely meant to have occurred. It surpasses storytelling talent and takes the reader(s) directly into situations through Grant's convictions of spirit. I highly recommend others take the journey with her.

  • Whether historical fiction, or the biography of a previous life (as claimed by the author), this book is well written. It describes the life of Pharoh and the politics of the Egyptian Court just prior to the birth of Moses. This is an entirely different account of Moses' birth than the one we are accustomed to reading. It is most entertaining and quite believable. I enjoyed the book very much.

  • I read this book over 20 years ago, & it was so thought-provoking then that I had to track it down & re-read it. The book was just as good as it was the first time!

  • Exactly what I needed to use Word on my Mac. It's excellent, and it was priced to be affordable (because it's an older version, which doesn't matter to me at all). Love it! Easy to use.

  • The author of this book wrote an amazing, 5 star novel - "The Winged Pharoh", which I highly recommend. This book is a disappointment in comparison. It sounds and feel like a romantic invention and fabrication loosely based on a biblical tell. The author, maybe intoxicated after the success of her first book, attempted to recreate this book. 'The Winged Pharoh' sounds authentic, written from direct connection, deep perception and higher understanding of Anciiant Egypt. This book, however, is a weak attempt to continue the line of the first book, but falls miserably short.

Some authors were ment to write the one masterpiece (like Gabriel Garcia Marquez in his book: "One Hundred Years of Solitude", or Dorris Lessings in "Shikasta"). This book, unfortunately, is not one of those.
It is an okay book to read to 'kill time', and could be thought provoking. But it falls short of the mark. I do, however, highly recommend the Author first book - "The Winged Pharoh"

  • I recommend all Joan Grant books if you are into reincarnation
