I can forgive the clunkiness of Knights of the Black and White on the basis of it being the first book in a series and Whyte wanting to expose readers to as much info on the Knights Templar and the Crusades as possible.

02 Standard of Honor Book Two of the Templar Trilogy (A Templar Novel). I can forgive the clunkiness of Knights of the Black and White on the basis of it being the first book in a series and Whyte wanting to expose readers to as much info on the Knights Templar and the Crusades as possible. But that forgiveness is contingent on subsequent books in the series providing more action and less talk.

Jack Whyte was born and raised in Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1967. He is an actor, orator, singer, poet, and was awarded an honorary doctor of letters for his contribution to Canadian popular fiction. He is the author of the Dream of Eagles series (eight Arthurian novels set in Roman Britain) and the Templar Trilogy (featuring the legendary Knights Templar). Whyte’s novels are also published in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Brazil, and Russia. He lives in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Warned of the plot, Sir William St. Clair flees from France with the Temple's treasure, several hundred knights, and the widow Lady Jessica Randolph to seek sanctuary in Scotland

Knights of the Black and White.

There’s a reason why Whyte’s historical novels are so popular: he adroitly juggles fact and fiction, using real events as a jumping-off point for stories that feel historically right. Fans of the previous two novels who have been clamoring for this one since 2007 will not be disappointed. JACK WHYTE was born in Scotland and emigrated to Canada in 1967. Knights of the Black and White. Published by the Penguin Group.

The third novel in the thrilling historical trilogy about the rise and fall of the powerful and mysterious Templars, from the author of the immensely popular Camulod Chronicles. On that day, without warning, King Philip IV sent his armies to arrest every Templar in France in a single morning. To my wife, Beverley, mentor and care giver, who knows, invariably, when to leave me alone and when to haul me out of my hermitage and back into the light of lif. hank you yet again. The afternoon light was settling into dusk, and Tam was reduced to immobility after three days of hard traveling and within a half mile of his goal. The reins of his tired team now hung useless in his hands as a growing crowd of people backed up ahead of him, blocking his way and crowding close to his horses, making them snort and stomp and toss their heads nervously. Tam felt himself growing angry at the press around him.

The new Templar novel from the USA Today bestselling author On the morning of October 13, 1307, every Templar knight in France is arrested by the order of King Philip IV, who then seizes all the Order's assets and set the Inquisition against them. Warned of the plot, Sir William St. Clair flees from France with the Temple's treasure, several hundred knights, and the widow Lady Jessica Randolph to seek sanctuary in Scotland. There, with his men deprived of everything they valued and held dear at home, he will lead them into battle as Templar Knights one last time in defiant support of a king who is not their own, but who has earned their trust.
  • In his third book on the real Templars, Jack Whyte continues his terrific job if creating a credible story about who the Templars were and what they were about. He is an excellent Historical fiction author-weaving spells and binding your interest beautifully. I don't know how real he intended it to be, but in follow up books I've been reading- NOT fictional but through historical searches for the Arc and the Templars, he comes awfully close in many ways to what some writers using historical and living sources say actually happened. There are so many pieces to the story you'd have to read some of them to see the correspondences, from Pliny( the Younger or Elder, I can't remember) to Josephus and his last name is Bruce -from -a town and Family linked to THE Bruces... If you're interested in the Templars or biblical history as it were, this is an interesting offshoot to the JudeoChristian story which you can later track down as to where it may be accurate. He is a "Can't put it down" author. I'd highly reccomend it as I would the first two books. I loved it!!!

  • Mr. Whyte is an excellent writer and an historical pleasure to read. It's a little slow in its reading because it is so descriptive.

What I particularly loved was the way he took so many of the legends and alleged ties in Templar history and wove a truly believable tale of the Order. He brought in the Order of Sion, how the Templars may have sailed to America (explaining the medieval structures and carvings in America), the whereabouts of the lost treasure and why it could be at Rosslyn, what they may have found under the temple mount in Jerusalem and how it impacted history, and how they appeared at the Scottish battle of Stirling Bridge. These ties were cohesive and possible.

William Sinclair was a "hunk and a hero", a strong leading character. The leading lady was a little "ballsy" for her time, but she was Scottish (frequently depicted to be assertive, clever, and leading) and no pushover. Sir William was an honorable and trustworthy man that we only seem to see in times gone by; industrious, focused, loyal to friends and cause.

It can be read as a stand alone novel; it is some years past the time of the second book.

I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy great historical writing and am pleased to add it to my library.

  • last in the "Templar" Trilogy by Whyte - starts the evening before King Philip of France descended upon the Templars - and follows the Templars who, forewarned of the impending assault by the King, escape from the port of LaRochelle ...... anything further will be a spoiler ... if you're interest lies in Templar History - Jack Whyte's Trilogy cannot be beat insofar as historical fiction, in which case it comes highly recommended!

  • Jack Whyte is a spell-binding author of compelling historical fiction. I first met him in his Camulod series, then followed the Templar books as they came out. Order in Chaos is the third of the series, and is a fitting third book for a trilogy or for an ongoing series. Jack Whyte performs meticulous historical research, and a student of history would find the stories accurate in their historical detail and with a premise that "fits" the period of which he writes. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but I had read the first two of the series. While each book is written to be readable as a stand-alone novel, I urge readers to read them in series for the most enjoyment. Jack, you have done it again -- you have written a massive "page turner."

  • Part of a Trilogy which fictionalizes the development of the Knights Templar Order and it's demise. Quite absorbing as it spans several generations of the Sinclair family.
Please read in correct order for best results !

  • The telling of truth about the end of the Templar Knights and the struggles between the Scotch and the English are woven around characters and events that come alive with telling of this outstanding story by Jack Whyte.

  • I'm a long time Jack Whyte fan and put off reading the third book in the trilogy because of lukewarm reviews. I was ultimately disappointed when I finally read it. I found the book tedious with the story overwhelmed by detail that did not contribute to the storyline. I was disappointed with the limited progress of the Templars from the moment of betrayal to their uncertain future. They get to Scotland, the presumed interim stop in their journey, and there it ends.

  • Occasionally there appears a writer who is capable of bringing very serious topics, multifaceted in its crucial importance to understanding history, religion, politics, to a wide public in a easy-to-read, cant-put-it-down fashion. Many academics have tested their minds and writing skills and have not breached the walls of boredom or disinterest of the general readership. Jack Whyte has managed to that and that is no small feat. He has weaved a well-thought out plot around historical events that impact our everyday lives almost a millennium ago. A must read to anyone, from 7 to 77, for general culture, but also for great fun. For the academics, he gives interesting interpretation of what easily might have the roots, causes and effects of the Crusades and the Templars - as afore said - that sends aftershocks through centuries up to modern times
