He was a young man in years, but he had the hard face and eagle eye of one matured in experience of that wild country. He bestrode a superb bay horse, dusty and travel-worn and a little lame. He bestrode a superb bay horse, dusty and travel-worn and a little lame er was no light burden, judging from his height and wide shoulders; moreover, the saddle carried a canteen, a rifle, and a pack. From time to time he looked back over his shoulder at the magnificent, long cliff wall, which resembled a row of colossal books with leaves partly open. It was the steady, watchful gaze of a man who had left events behind him.

While a battle rages between two outlaw gangs in a remote Utah canyon, Jim struggles to rescue Helen Herrick, who has been captured and held for ransom. Robbers’ Roost tells the story of their personal struggle to escape the clutches of the murderous outlaws while simultaneously safeguarding their passion, one that is not likely to survive the beautiful, yet deadly, terrain and people of the old American West.

It was easily defended, difficult to navigate into without detection, and excellent when the gang needed a month or longer to rest and lie low following a robbery. It was while hiding out at Robbers Roost that Elzy Lay and Butch Cassidy first formed the Wild Bunch gang.

  • Lead character joins band of thieves meets brother and sister leaves with gang of baddies falls in love with sister has battle with another gang after girl gang on both sides get killed shoots main baddie saves girl returns her home gets girl story ends with all forgiven gets girl the end

  • Always enjoyable in his own way of writing, try to read as many
Zane Grey novels as possible. Just like Louie L'Amour, I have all of his
books except for a book of poetry.

  • Jim wall a cattle rustler and bank hank hays robber battles for Helen at star ranch in utah. For ransom and for cattle stealing, very boring western, not a lot of action just a ok story.

  • Far from most stories by Mr Grey. While quite fun to read, this was far from his best work. Maybe one of his earlier stories? Not sure, but still good reading.

  • This book was very in depth and very intense at times. It is full of raw emotions. Zane is a great story teller. Like Louis L’Amour his heroes are larger than life and have character.

  • I love Zane Grey. He has an amazing ability to weave action and romance for a well balanced read. He holds my attention well with interesting and exciting plots. No filth. I like that!

  • It seemed a little lengthy and slow at times, but I still enjoyed it. Some of the words were hard to understand.

  • It was OK but not great. I was surprised to find it was from Zane Grey, I expected More from him.
