The ring around the sun had thickened all day long, and the turquoise blue of the Arizona sky had filmed. Storms in the dry countries are infrequent, but heavy; and this surely meant storm. We had ridden since sun-up over broad mesas, down and out of deep canons, along the base of the mountain in the wildest parts of the territory. The cattle were winding leisurely toward the high country; the jack rabbits had disappeared; the quail lacked; we did not see a single antelope in the open.
  • I selected this book on a whim and am so glad that I did. The stories are sweet as in times gone by. Each chapter is written from the viewpoint of cowboys around the campfire spinning 'yarns' for one another in the late hours of the day. Many of the stories are so mirthful that you will have tears in your eyes from laughing. If you want something light and filled with unexpected laughs, definitely select this book.

  • Seller was able to get me this in good time and it came in great shape. It was for my father. He goes to the local towns looking for certain books as he is a history buff. He enjoys reading and this book is now read and in his collections of older works. I would buy again from the seller of this book. They took the time to wrap the book and it came in great timing and in great shape.

  • There are a variety of sound western stories. Each short story was true to the lore of the west and it's characters.

  • A turn of the century novel that paints a lifestyle reminiscent of yesteryear in the southwest. A terribly interesting read in another time.

  • Not considered politically correct these days, but this book is probably an accurate account of life in the early days of Arizona.

  • Okay read for those that like western type reading. Historical data used for the story.

  • Another fascinating book by White. Both the stories and the descriptions are captivating.

  • If you have ever read the Cantiberry Tales, this is similar. It's interesting to read something written in a different era. It takes some getting use to but then its enjoyable.
