Fortunately, HIS LAST BOW found Sir Arthur Conan Doyle back in form. The eight stories in this volume, for the most part, hold up well when compared to those in earlier works. Sure, at times it feels a bit old hack, but that is only because this volume, book eight out of nine, comes so late in the Sherlock Holmes' canon. If this book had come earlier, with some other collection of stories coming later, the relative feeling of freshness would be reversed.

His Last Bow. The War Service of Sherlock Holmes", later titled "His Last Bow: An Epilogue of Sherlock Holmes", is one of 56 short stories about Sherlock Holmes written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It was first published in September 1917 in Strand Magazine, and, amongst six other stories, was collected in an anthology titled His Last Bow: Some Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes.

Part of a collection of stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle published asa book entitled His Last Bow). The large oak-panelled, book-lined room had a curtain hung in thefurther corner. When this was drawn it disclosed a large, brass-boundsafe. It was nine o'clock at night upon the second of August-the mostterrible August in the history of the world. Von Bork detached a small key from his watch chain, and aftersome considerable manipulation of the lock he swung open the heavy door.

His Last Bow: Some Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of previously published Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, including the titular short story, "His Last Bow. The War Service of Sherlock Holmes" (1917).

Dr Watson once again opens his portfolio to reveal eight strange cases solved by the keen intellect of the master detective. They range from murder and kidnapping to theft and treachery. Motives for the crimes may be vengeance, greed or jealousy - or what seems like practical jokes gone wrong.
  • ...do same yourself some $$$ by purchasing as part of a collection like Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Collection ASIN: B01JVMOOPE, His Last Bow: Some Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes (Illustrated) ASIN: B00O56MUF8 or Sherlock Holmes: The Ultimate Collection ASIN: B01HQDYF72

This book includes snippets of several Sir Arthur Conan Doyle tales with handy links from the table of contents so you can read them in any order you choose. Just enough to give you a flavor for how well the man wrote (including the popular phrase from which I took my title) but I'm certain you'll want to own the stories in their entirety so best to grab yourself a a collection comprising 1000+ pages for an equivalent sum that you can really sink your teeth in I would think.

  • The contents of the book are just fine- another great collection of Holmes short stories. This edition however is missing The Adventure of the Cardboard Box. Also there's not even page numbers which is just annoying. I've bought a few of the different Holmes books from various publishers and the cheaper version like this don't have illustrations, historical notes or a glossary of Victorian English, the omission of the page numbers makes this one of the weaker editions of even the cheap publishers. However, if you can live without all of those things, this is a great book at a very cheap price.

  • It is almost impossible to read Sherlock Holmes novels and short stories in any sort of chronological order. There are people and Sherlockian societies that devote a great deal of thought to Holmes chronology.

Personally I believe that the right place to start is "A Study in Scarlet" and most I am sure would agree and that this collection should be the last. One issue is that it is confusing to know just when Watson was married and when he resided at 221 Baker but one could enjoy the stories in any order. Still, I think it best to try to follow some sort of chronology.

In the original Star Trek episodes star dates were random, so one never quite knew the chronology of events, but there was at least, some attention to consistency. I guess the writers took a cue from Conan Doyle.

  • This is such a nice edition! I definitely plan on buying more books like it in the future!

  • Love all the original Sherlock stories!

  • Allows me to read awhile and posably even finish the short mistry... Author Conan Doyle does a greeat job of adding discriptive adsj to make it interesting

  • Sir Arthur Conan Doyle last impressions of the great Sherlock Holmes!

  • Great book
